    Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is seeking aHealth Information Specialistfor our State Hospital North (SHN) inOrofino. State Hospital North is a licensed 60-bed psychiatric hospital providing primarily involuntary inpatient treatment for adults in psychiatric crisis who are committed to the Department of Health and Welfare. State Hospital North collaborates with patients, their families, and the referring regional behavioral health centers to develop targeted goals and objectives for the individual's treatment episode while simultaneously focusing on critical supports and arrangements for follow-up care after discharge.

     

    Applicants who have completed a training program specific to state and federal requirements for patient records, such as Health Information Technology are encouraged to apply.

     

    The successful applicant will be required to complete a criminal history background investigation. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.

     

    This is an ongoing announcement which means at the time applicants apply, we may or may not have an opening. Those applicants that take and pass the exam to show they meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on the referral list. When a position becomes available, the hiring supervisor will then directly contact those applicants they wish to interview off the referral list.

    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

    + Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information.

    + Scanning, indexing, and exporting patient health records.

    + Coordinate records activities with other departmental units.

    + Authorize release of patient information.

    + Ensure records system procedures comply with federal and state statutes and regulations.

    + Compile patient census, statistical, and medical information for research and other special studies.

    + Occasional interaction with patients may arise in this role.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    You must possess all the minimum/specialty minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum and specialty qualifications for this position. It is highly recommended to attach a one-page cover letter to your application to demonstrate how you meet the requirements below.

     

    + Good knowledge of state and federal requirements for the maintenance and retention of patient health records . Typically gained by at least six months of work experience requiring knowledge of state and federal patient health record requirements. Experience must have been in a medical records department or with actual responsibility for medical record maintenance in a clinic setting. Experience gathering data or entering documentation in patient charts (e.g. as a CNA, psychiatric technician, or home health aide) would not qualify. Experience must demonstrate good knowledge of the applicable state and federal regulations and requirements. OR completion of, or current enrollment in, an accredited training program specific to state and federal requirements for patient health records, such as Health Information Technology. At least 24 credit hours of coursework must be completed prior to appointment.

    + Good knowledge of state and federal requirements related to privacy, confidentiality, security, rights of access and release of patient health records. Typically gained by at least six months of work experience requiring knowledge of state and federal requirements related to privacy, confidentiality, and security of patient health records OR completion of, or current enrollment in, an accredited training program specific to state and federal requirements for patient health records, such as Health Information Technology. At least 24 credit hours of coursework must be completed prior to appointment.

    + Some knowledge of automated information systems. Typically gained by at least three months of work experience using automated information systems to perform duties of position. Experience must include the ability to scan, enter, retrieve, or export data across multiple file formats and/or locations in computer and/or automated systems OR completion of a three-day course (approximately 20 hours), or equivalent, specific to the use of automated information systems.

    + Some knowledge of alphabetical, numerical, or subject filing systems. Typically gained by at least six months of full-time work experience using and maintaining filing systems. Experience must also include determining file names, setting up new files, classifying, labeling, filing and retrieving OR completion of a college level office occupations course or other health information related course which included hands-on or textbook experience in each of the areas listed.
