    Your Mission:

As a Clinic Veterinarian with the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL), you will help advance our mission by providing high-quality medical care to animals served through the ARL’s Afford-a-Care Clinics. Your expertise and compassion will help ensure every animal receives exceptional care while building lasting relationships with the clients who trust us with their pets.

    What You’ll Do:

In this role, you will perform medical examinations, monitor ongoing care, and ensure the health and well-being of animals seen. You’ll provide wellness services, perform spay/neuter and other surgical procedures, and educate clients on nutrition, preventative care, and general pet health. You will collaborate closely with veterinary technicians, receptionists, and other staff to maintain efficient clinic operations while fostering a supportive and professional environment. You’ll ensure accurate and timely medical recordkeeping, adherence to state board regulations, and compliance with ARL’s protocols and mission. You will also lead by example, maintaining high standards of care, mentoring support staff, and identifying opportunities for process improvements to enhance service quality.

    What You Bring:

You hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree and a current license to practice in the State of Iowa, with the ability to obtain a DEA license. You bring a strong background in veterinary medicine and preferably surgery, along with a passion for helping both animals and people. You are a clear communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can balance efficiency with empathy. You are committed to client education, collaborative teamwork, and compassionate care. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience supervising veterinary support staff are also valuable assets in this role.

    Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and to work for extended periods standing or sitting. Work may expose you to animal waste, bites, scratches, contagious diseases, and moderate noise levels. Strict adherence to safety and disease control protocols is required.

    Why Work at the ARL?

At the ARL, you’ll have the opportunity to make a difference every day by improving the lives of animals and the people who love them. As part of a compassionate and mission-driven medical team, you’ll provide accessible, high-quality care to our community while advancing animal welfare in Iowa. You’ll work alongside dedicated professionals who share your commitment to kindness, collaboration, and excellence in veterinary medicine.

Employment in this position is at-will, meaning that either the employee or the ARL may terminate the employment relationship at any time.

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and/or applicable state regulations, the Animal Rescue League will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities and encourages prospective employees and incumbents to discuss potential accommodations.
