    About the Role

    A leading distribution company of tools is seeking a Sales Tax Accountant to manage multi-state sales and use tax compliance and reporting. This is a hands-on, highly analytical role perfect for a detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives on accuracy, process improvement, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

     

    The ideal candidate will be confident working independently, have strong GAAP and general ledger knowledge, and enjoy owning processes end-to-end—from filings to audits to system management.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Prepare and file accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns for multiple states and localities

    + Serve as the primary liaison with external CPA firms for corporate tax return support

    + Manage and coordinate all aspects of sales and use tax audits, including documentation and responses to auditors

    + Configure and maintain sales tax software (Avalara) and ERP systems (NetSuite) to ensure accurate tax calculations

    + Collect, validate, and maintain customer tax exemption certificates

    Requirements

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA or MBA a plus

    + 3–5+ years of sales and use tax experience across multiple states

    + Strong understanding of GAAP and general ledger processes

    + Advanced Excel skills and ERP experience

    + Analytical, inquisitive, and able to investigate variances and exceptions

    + Experience in distribution or manufacturing environments a plus

    + Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal teams and external auditors
