    Department Summary

    The Office of the Provost (OtP) is responsible for carrying out the academic mission of the University of Oregon (UO). The office works collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance academic excellence, student success, and the UO’s overall academic profile. Led by the provost and senior vice president, the OtP is a dynamic, caring community of colleagues committed to the core values of integrity, trust, equity, collaboration, and excellence. The OtP supports and coordinates matters that pertain to faculty success, including hiring, retention, promotion, and tenure processes. We promote the highest standards in teaching, research and service, working closely with the schools and colleges and other critical academic units to promote institutional and personal flourishing. We are responsible for academic financial allocations and the alignment of resources with strategic academic priorities. In service to the public mission of the UO, the OtP cultivates reciprocal relationships of engagement and outreach with communities at the local, regional, and national levels and across the globe.

    Position Summary

    The University of Oregon seeks a visionary and collaborative Core Education Director to lead the coordination, assessment, and continuous improvement of the university’s Core Education curriculum. This role is essential to realizing the promise of Core Education as a transformative, cohesive, and student-centered component of the undergraduate experience.  The Director will ensure that Core Education courses have a clear and shared identity and are aligned with institutional learning outcomes. The incumbent will make Core Education more visible as an essential part of the student experience, promote student success, and evolve the program to meet changing faculty and student needs and aspirations.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Master’s degree.

    • 5 years of experience in higher education in curriculum development and undergraduate education.

    • Experience working with faculty and administrative leaders across academic disciplines and units.

    Professional Competencies

    • Knowledge of models and approaches to general education in higher education including assessment models and approaches.

    • Knowledge of change management principles and ability to implement change across an institution.

    • Ability to effectively communicate in a variety of modalities and audiences, including the ability to write, facilitate discussions, and listen perceptively.

    • Ability to use data to guide decision-making in an institution of higher education.

    • Ability to build relationships, motivate, and work effectively with staff, students, and faculty, as well as university administrators at various levels to achieve objectives.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Doctorate degree.

    • Experience applying best practices to promote undergraduate student success.

    • Experience collaborating with faculty to lead successful policy or curricular design and reform efforts in an institution of higher education.

    • Experience coordinating assessment of student learning in an institution of higher education.
