    PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    The purpose of this job is to oversee payment recovery efforts arising out of claims payments made on ICW Group claims. This position exists to ensure that ICW Group is identifying recovery opportunities, pursuing those opportunities, and continually seeking ways in which to improve recovery efforts Nationally, across all claim’s lines.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Oversees activities within the Claims Payment Recovery team.

     

    + Works to improve the quality of payment recovery management within the organization.

    + Develops standards and protocols for Claims personnel relating to identification and referral of subrogation, contribution, overpayment, and restitution opportunities.

    + Continuously develops, presents, and effectuates informational notifications, updates, and trainings surrounding topics of payment recovery relevance to the Claims Team.

     

    Manages, oversees, and directs cases for Payment Recovery opportunities.

     

    + Coordinates outside legal counsel responsible for supporting Claims payment recovery functions.

    + Conducts ongoing audits and quality assurance reviews on payment recovery cases being handled by outside counsel.

    + Works closely with ICW Group’s claims personnel and other internal and external investigative and expert resources in conducting initial and ongoing evaluations of potential and actual payment recovery issues.

    + Prepares legal and factual analyses regarding the viability and merits of potential payment recoveries.

    + Submits cases exceeding own authority with comments to the Claims leadership.

     

    Establishes practices for factual and legal development, monitoring, settlement, and claim resolutions functions.

     

    + Manages all areas relating to the payment recovery aspect of all claims nationwide.

    + Develops standards and procedures for the handling of subrogation claims internally, and referral of litigated subrogation claims to outside legal counsel.

    + Develops and prepares periodic reports to management advising on payment recovery efforts, including analysis of current results against historical results, and identification of initiatives designed to drive improvement in recovery efforts.

     

    Develops and supervises a team of Payment Recovery professionals.

     

    + Provides daily direction to payment recovery team. Communicates Mission, Values, and other organization operating principles to direct and indirect reports.

    + Establishes and maintains the overall work cadence and, in partnership with department leadership, ensures performance and outcomes strive for excellence in delivery and customer experience. Ensures that the entire team is engaged and that leadership practices encourage development, recognition, and retention.

    + Establishes and adheres to hiring criteria, on-boarding, and training requirements for incoming staff.

    + Oversees the performance management and development process for the team and performs performance management duties, development planning and coaching for direct reports.

    + Acts as a resource for team members to answer questions and solve complex problems.

    + Manages budget, technology and other resources, workload, and customer requests for Subrogation Department services. Ensures adherence to all Company policies and procedures and Compliance responsibilities.

    + Ensures data quality, adherence to IT security guidelines, profitability and other risk-related metrics for self and members of the team.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Directly supervises employees within the Payment Recovery team and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. These responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting performance and salary reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to further their skills and knowledge; creating and monitoring development plans; setting performance expectations/goals; forecasting staffing needs and planning for peak times and absences; enforcing department policies and procedures.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university required with a major or emphasis in Business Administration, Management, or related field; (or equivalent combination of education and/or experience). Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school preferred. Minimum 5-8 years of related experience required, and a minimum 3 years of supervisory experience required.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Member of California State Bar preferred.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    Expert working knowledge of subrogation Workers’ Compensation insurance industry, required. Advanced understanding of Workers’ Compensation Claims principles and application. Strong understanding of personnel and performance strategies. Experience creating and implementing department wide strategies and initiatives. Proven ability to work both independently and leading a team. Ability to effectively present information to ICW staff, executive management, and external audiences. Superior verbal and written communication skills. Strong understanding of personnel and performance strategies. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Requires a high level of attention to detail.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Office environment – no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands and employees are regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    This position operates in an office environment and requires the frequent use of a computer, telephone, copier, and other standard office equipment.

    The current range for this position is

     

    $104,125.20 - $175,599.98

     

    This range is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. If hired at ICW Group, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors unique to each candidate, including experience, education and the location of the role and considers employees performing substantially similar work.
