Job Summary
The Peleg Lab is seeking a creative and biologically curious postdoctoral researcher to join an interdisciplinary initiative on the rhythms and communication signals of living organisms. This project spans a wide range of systems, from deep-sea mussels and bioluminescent fireflies to frogs, crickets, birds, and beyond. Further information on the Peleg Lab can be found here: https://www.peleglab.com. (https://apptrkr.com/get\_redirect.php?id=6630277&targetURL=https://www.peleglab.com/)
Our core goal is to understand how biological collectives coordinate behavior across time and space, especially through rhythmic and discrete signals. We take an information-theoretic view of these codes, asking what can be encoded, transmitted, and decoded under physical and sensory constraints, and how efficient, robust, and distinctive different codes can be. This position centers on developing mathematical and computational models (for example, dynamical systems and agent-based models) and running extensive parameter sweeps to explore hypotheses grounded in real experimental data. You will help define quantitative measures for discrete temporal codes, link them to simple interaction rules and collective dynamics, and test predictions on datasets from the lab and collaborators.
The ideal candidate is someone who is deeply passionate about biological systems and their quirky signaling strategies, and who thrives on creative thinking. You'll be the go-to person in the lab for building simple but powerful simulations that test our wildest ideas.
The Peleg Lab is located within the BioFrontiers Institute and seeks to understand the behavior of disordered living systems by merging tools from physics, biology, engineering, and computer science, with a focus on honeybee communication (mechanical and chemical). Further information on the BioFrontiers Institute can be found here: https://www.colorado.edu/biofrontiers/ (https://apptrkr.com/get\_redirect.php?id=6630277&targetURL=https://www.colorado.edu/biofrontiers/)
