    Director, Development - New York, NY

     

    Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast-moving, award-winning technology engine that powers Scotiabank’s Corporate, Investment Banking and Capital Markets businesses.

     

    GBME is searching for a Director, Development to lead and join their cross-asset transaction master team. The successful candidate is a seasoned technology leader, with experience managing a development team in the capital market space. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in building and scaling cross asset trading applications, with a proven track record in trade capture, trade life cycle and position management in a cross-asset framework. This role requires strong functional, technical and strategic capabilities to drive multiple projects and will work closely with business teams (trading desks) and technology teams.

    Responsibilities:

    + Manage and lead the development team responsible for cross-asset transaction master and a portfolio of in-house tools built for the trading desks

    + Build and implement a new transaction master framework to facilitate real-time position tracking for trading and regulatory initiatives.

    + Develop and maintain existing tools to facilitate ETF and GED trading desks.

    + Collaborate closely with multiple trading desks (ETF/Global Equity Derivatives/Group Treasury/Prime Services) traders, to build strategic solutions to facilitate their business.

    + Partner with technology teams to build a micro-service based eco-system for cross asset trading platform.

    + Foster a high-performing global team culture focused on accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

    + Facilitate technical conversations and critical decision-making around architecture and data flow with business stakeholders and engineering leaders, balancing priorities of resourcing, risk, and business needs.

    + Ensure security, scalability, and compliance across all deliverables.

    + Oversee tracking and reporting of FTEs, contractors, and vendor resources. Manage rate structures, contract terms, and funding sources in partnership with HR and Procurement.

    + Build a high-performance environment and sustain a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment

    + Use a coaching mindset and behavior; communicate business strategies and manage succession and development for the team

    Minimum Qualifications

    + 15+ years of experience in financial services technology, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

    + Proven experience as a Technology Director, Engineering Leader, or Principal Architect in financial services or fintech.

    + Deep expertise in designing and building systems for transaction master, reference data, security master, benchmarks, or related domains.

    + Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), microservices, APIs, and data pipelines (e.g., Kafka, Spark, Airflow).

    + Strong knowledge of an object-oriented programming language (Java, C#, Python), software testing methodologies and software architecture.

    + Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

    + Able to handle competing priorities and influence leadership decision-making.

    + Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.

    + Preferred Qualifications

    + Strong understanding of trade lifecycle, position management and Cross-Asset products (Equity Derivatives, Fixed Income, FX).

    + Proficiency in development of real-time distributed software systems desired.
