PUBLIC GUARDIAN
The Office of the Public Guardian (https://www.edcgov.us/Government/HumanServices/Protective%20Services/Pages/public\_guardian.aspx) ensures the physical and financial safety of persons unable to do so on their own, and when there are no viable alternatives to a public conservatorship. Services are defined and directed by the Superior Court. The Superior Court can appoint the Public Guardian as a conservator of the person only, estate only (for probate) or both person and estate.
THE OPPORTUNITY
+ Obtain client information and records from internal and external partners
+ Interview clients
+ Transport or arrange transport of clients to court and other appointments
+ Draft application(s) for appropriate client entitlements
+ Draft internal reports and documents
+ Witness the marshaling of client's resources and assets
Any combination of the required experience, education, and training that would provide the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
Must be a current full-time or part-time enrollment in an accredited college or university program leading to an associate degree, bachelor's degree, or a vocational certification.
Licenses and Certifications:
Some positions may require the possession of a valid Driver's License and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
+ Applicants under 18 years of age must secure and provide a work permit prior to the start of the internship.
+ Students shall work no more than 24 hours per week during the school term, but may work full-time during school breaks. The definition of part-time or full-time enrollment is that of which is stated in the educational institution's official catalogue.
+ Additional education, experience, certifications, or licenses may apply depending upon the internship assignment area.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
The Human Resources Department will screen all applications to identify qualified candidates. After screening, qualified candidates will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in the recruitment process.
A written exam will be utilized to determine an applicant's ranking and placement on the eligibility list. The online examination has been tentatively scheduled for 10/24/2025. If it is determined that you meet the minimum qualifications and are therefore eligible to participate, you will be notified by email at least one week prior to the examination.
If you have taken this examination within six (6) months prior to the scheduled date of the examination, your score will automatically be transferred to this exam, and you are not permitted to sit for this examination. If you have taken this examination from greater than six (6) months but within twelve (12) months prior to the scheduled date of the examination, you may elect to transfer that examination score or sit for the examination again; you must contact Human Resources prior to the scheduled exam date to request that your previous score be transferred.
A transferred examination score does not guarantee passing the current examination administration. Examination pass points are set in accordance with the EEOC Uniform Employee Selection Guidelines.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Student Interns. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time, and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.

Extra help vacancies are made to maintain adequate coverage of work for short periods of time at frequent intervals, where employment is of a recurrent nature depending on the needs of the Agency; work may be seasonal, on-call, and/or for a limited duration. Extra help employees are not considered regular employees, therefore do not attain civil service status, and do not receive benefits or paid leaves; however, they do accrue sick leave consistent with the law. If appointed to an Extra Help position it may transition to a regular position if all the conditions of Personnel Rule 1103.1 are met.
