    Job Summary

    The Facility Supervisor is responsible for overseeing, supervising, and participating in the maintenance and repair of college buildings and grounds. This job is a hands-on working supervisor position that necessitates being an active participant in building maintenance as well as manages the day to day operations of the buildings and grounds. This position purchases supplies and contracted work through using state purchasing guidelines, manages a staff of employees (usually 3-5) and manages contracted work including renovation and major repairs.

    Essential Functions

    • Trains, assigns, directs, supervises, participates, and evaluates the work of employees engaged in performing skilled and semi-skilled buildings and grounds maintenance and repair duties. Responds to emergency requests for repairs.

    • Maintains records and logs of items such as time and materials expended on each work order and brief description of work performed. Uses, distributes, orders, and maintains materials, tools and equipment.

     

    (15%)

     

    • Plans and directs carpentry and renovation projects.

     

    (5%)

     

    • Maintains fire alarms, extinguishers, sprinkler and security systems.

     

    (5%)

     

    • Applies insecticides by use of sprayer as directed and by adhering to necessary safety precautions.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials and practices of building and grounds maintenance

    Work Environment

     

    Facility Supervisors split their time between shop and office work. Duties include observing workers throughout the building, going outdoors to supervise groundskeeping activities, working on equipment, ordering parts, and visiting other campuses as directed. This position will provide help to staff, faculty, and students as needed.

     

    Physical Demands

     

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

     

    Facility Supervisors may have to stand for long periods or lift heavy objects. These workers may work in uncomfortably hot or cold environments, in uncomfortable or cramped positions, climbing ladders, or sitting at a computer to order parts, manage the work order system, and manage personnel records.

     

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

     

    This is a full-time position, mainly located on the Murphy Campus. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Thursday, 7 am to 4:30 pm and Friday, 8 am until 12 pm. Depending on the needs of the college a Monday through Thursday schedule of four ten hours days may be approved. This position occasionally requires longer hours (more than 40) and supervisors are on call to address problems that arise at all hours.

     

    Travel

     

    The Supervisor will be stationed at a home campus. However, travel to other campus locations is required, as needed.

    Required Education and Experience

    • High School diploma or equivalent *and* three (3) years of related experience.

    Preferred Education and Experience

    • Previous experience of at least one year in a supervisor position overseeing the maintenance and grounds of a facility to include chillers, boilers and general day to day maintenance operations.

    Salary/Benefits

     

    Annual salary $51,625.60. Benefits include paid state holidays, vacation, retirement, personal and sick leave, and State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program.
