Job Description Summary
This temporary full-time Research Lab Services Assistant position provides critical operational support for the 3600 Civic Center Blvd research facility, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient laboratory operations.
Job Description
The role requires hands-on technical expertise to maintain essential infrastructure including cryogenic systems, compressed gas supplies, safety equipment, and specialized laboratory apparatus across multiple floors. This position is vital to supporting ongoing research activities, maintaining regulatory compliance, and preventing costly equipment failures or sample loss. The temporary employee will work collaboratively with the Operations Manager and lab operations team to deliver daily services, respond to emergencies, and participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for freezer monitoring systems. This role is essential to bridge current staffing gaps and maintain the high level of operational support required by our growing research community. Position is initially for six months with intent to extend. Hour for the position are 8am-4pm Monday to Friday.
Qualifications:
+ High School Grad/GE Degree and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
+ 2-3 years of experience in lab operations, facilities management, or related area
+ Knowledge of laboratory equipment, infrastructure, and safety requirements
+ Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
+ Ability to respond to emergencies and work outside normal business hours
+ Knowledge of regulatory requirements for research laboratories
+ Familiarity with maintenance and repair of scientific equipment
+ Experience in an academic research environment

Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job’s level. Internal organization and peer data at Penn are also considered.
