    Description

    The Department Chair of the Practical Nursing supports the Executive Director, Nursing Education in assuring the PN nursing program's compliance with NJBON and ACEN regulations .Maintains accountability for on-going aspects of the PN program as it relates to teaching, evaluation, curriculum development, revision, and articulation

     

    This position includes Fall / Summer Stipend $5,000

     

    Summer Stipend $3,000

     

    Examples of Duties

     

    + Teaches and evaluates students in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical practice areas in accordance with PN nursing program and course requirements.

    + Assist the Executive Director, Nursing Education by supervising the collection and maintenance of program data to support the systematic plan of evaluation to meet NJBON/ACEN accreditation standards and with instructional staff evaluates and makes program decisions based on supporting data.

    + Assist the Executive Director, Nursing Education in maintaining the PN Nursing Program Handbook and assures all compliant with NJBON and ACEN Standards.

    + Recruits, develops, supervises, and completes performance evaluations for BSN adjunct staff, clerical support staff, and Supplemental Instructors.

    + Orients new staff members. Mentors clinical staff.

    + Allocates teaching work load, assigns full-and part-time instructor schedules, and course assignments based on educational and clinical expertise, the needs of the PN Nursing Program, and incompliance with NJBON and ACEN.

    + Over sees the preparation of course calendars, modules, clinical and laboratory schedules, and student clinical schedules.

    + Reviews textbooks and consolidates departmental text orders and advises on library acquisitions

    + Orients new staff members. Mentors clinical staff.

    + Chairs and coordinates the activities of the PN Nursing Curriculum Committees. Supervises the collection and maintenance of meeting minutes in compliance with accreditation standards. Oversees curricular development, instructional innovation and course revision.

    + Provides input to the Executive Director, Nursing Education regarding the PN nursing program's operating budget and requests for Perkins funding.

    + Fosters, encourages, initiates and develops, in cooperation with the instruction staff, improvement in teaching Over sees the recruitment and advisement of students for the PN nursing program in collaboration with the admissions, recruitment, and counseling/advising areas

    + Maintains standards of professional nursing practice as an individual and as a member of the nursing team. Serves as a role model for nursing students.

    Typical Qualifications

    Education:

    + Master's of Science in Nursing(MSN),MSN-Ed preferred

    + License to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Jersey

    Experience:

    + Minimum three years of full-time experience working in an accredited or approved nursing education program with responsibilities that included the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing curriculum.

    Competencies and Skills Required:

    + Ability to teach in all areas of nursing

    + Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
