**Required Qualifications:** (as evidenced by an attached resume/CV)
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Astrophysics or a closely related field in hand by the start of the appointment. Knowledge about astronomical data sets.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong background in one of more of the following: (1) previous analyses with weak gravitational lensing, (2) experience with strong gravitational lensing, (3) coding and software development, (4) student mentorship experience, (5) statistical inferences from astronomical data or (6) work in large collaborations.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the department of Physics and Astronomy (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/physics/) .
The Postdoctoral Associate will work under the supervision of PI Dr. Simon Birrer (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/physics/people/\_profiles/birrers) and lead the effort to combine strong and weak gravitational lensing analyses with the Vera Rubin Observatory (https://rubinobservatory.org/) LSST data sets. The incumbent will work within the Dark Energy Science Collaboration (DESC (https://lsstdesc.org/) ) and is responsible to create and explore synergies within different working groups and perform original research in collaboration with the PI, his group and DESC.
The incumbent will be evaluated for their creativity, quantitative skills, and capabilities to clearly present the results of their work with scientific papers and seminars. The incumbent will have the opportunity to mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the PI’s research group. Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.
• Develop and apply strong and weak lensing analyses to the LSST data.
• Work in collaboration with other members of the PI’s group and actively mentor and co-lead projects with more junior members.
• Contribute a vibrant research environment at Stony Brook, interact with the cosmology group.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
