    Northrop Grumman Strategic Intelligence & Data Exploitation (SI&DE) is an Operating Unit within the larger Northrop Grumman Corporation that is located at multiple sites. You’ll get the opportunity to wrestle with the next big problems in an atmosphere of collaboration and cooperation, sharing your expertise while also learning from other highly gifted and experienced engineers.

     

    We are looking for you to join our team as the **Chief Technologist and Mission Architect** located in **Chantilly, Virginia** to focus on the technical direction across the entire SI&DE Operating Unit.

     

    We are looking for a cleared or clearable professional who wants to solve the puzzles that make a difference to our nation’s security with a focus on SIGINT sensor systems air and ground systems. This position requires daily onsite work in Chantilly, VA with regular travel to Sacramento and Woodland Hills, CA and other customer and Northrop Grumman sites.

     

    This role leverages the systems and technologies from across the operating unit and the enterprise to solve some of the world’s most challenging problems, which includes

     

    + Airborne and ground SIGINT technology roadmap creation and execution

    + R&D Investment Strategy

    + Technical business development inclusive of proposals, white papers and customer engagement

    + Serve as SIGINT technology liaison across the corporation

    + Program mentorship for technical leaders

     

    As the technology liaison, you will work across the corporation and sectors for Passive and Active SIGINT, Non-kinetic effects and techniques, Cyber, sensor technologies, signal processing, electronic attack techniques, and special comms/waveforms.

     

    A key component of the position includes technical business development and developing customer relationships. These include identifying technology enablers to solve the mission, the ability to present in large groups of unfamiliar people, the ability to develop relationships with customer leaders and technical directors along with generating white papers and proposals.

     

    For programs, you will advise and consult to programs as a subject matter expert, mentor junior engineering staff, and conduct independent reviews of program milestones and technical work products.

     

    You will perform system-of-system trades, analysis of alternatives, modeling, simulation, and analysis to deliver Customer mission effects, data or capabilities. Mission architecture trades may include orbits, air/space vehicles, payloads, ground segments, mission planning, Concepts of Operations (CONOPS), Design Reference Missions (DRM), system security and external interfaces. You will lead mission system element design, capability assessment, mission thread and interface definition, verification/validation planning, and mission integration functions during system development.

You will be responsible for communicating with our customers and end users to understand their requirements and ultimately turn those requirements into a product that can be fielded in their challenging environments within an aggressive mission date. Our products must survive harsh environments including terrestrial, airborne, and space. Therefore, we expect you to demonstrate a track record of developing hardware solutions and implementing them with ingenuity and creativity.

    Basic Qualifications:

    + 16 years of engineering experience with a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) Bachelor's degree, or 14 years of engineering experience with a STEM Master's degree, or 12 years of engineering experience with a STEM PhD

    + This position requires significant experience in two or more of the following domains:

    + SIGINT sensors (passive and active)

    + Systems Architecture

    + Performance Modeling and Simulation

    + Integrated circuit and electronics design of RF Systems

    + Non-Kinetic Effects (Cyber Operations)

    + US Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance is required. An active clearance is required to start work.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Active Top Secret Clearance with SCI and polygraph

    + Masters or PhD in a relevant field

    + Experience developing and fielding national security mission systems for US government

    + Experience designing complex system architectures

    + Significant SIGINT architecture, design, integration and test experience

    + RF domain experience

    + Requirements derivation & flow down

    + Systems integration testing

    + Verification and Validation

    + Direct involvement leading system and/or subsystem design

     

    This position offers the option of a 9/80 work schedule. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work nine-hour days Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

    Primary Level Salary Range: $206,900.00 - $310,300.00

     

    The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

     

    Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
