Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems needs a part-time propellant **Subject Matter Expert (SME)** to provide technical guidance for production, development, and proposal efforts. The SME would provide technical leadership for one or more solid rocket motor projects and/or company products.This position will be located at our facility in **Promontory, UT** .
The position requires extensive knowledge of heritage solid propellant programs with a focus on high solids (90%+), high burn rate HTPB propellants that have proven to have significant manufacturing challenges. The ideal candidate would have experience with high burn rate formulation materials and processes including grinding, mixing, and casting.
The position requires knowledge of low burn rate HTPB propellants using similar ingredients as those used in the PeaceKeeper program. The ideal candidate would have experience with low burn rate formulation materials and processes including grinding, mixing, and casting.
The position preferred experience includes an extensive knowledge of: 1) propellant hazards classification and mitigation strategies, 2) hammer mills and fluid energy mills operations for both AP and nitramine grinding, 3) particle packing / particle sizes of solids to achieve high solids loading, and 4) mix cycles optimization to minimize high viscosity during to mix minimizing risks to mixer facilities.
The candidate would influence key decisions during propellant development saving cost and schedule on key milestones. The candidate would provide mentorship to team members.
_Basic Qualifications:_
• Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Engineering, or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university and 12 years related experience, 10 Years with Masters or 8 Year with PhD
• Extensive prior experience with a solid propellant rocket motor development and/or qualification efforts
• Prior experience guiding and mentoring lower-level engineers
• Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance, which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite
_Preferred Qualifications:_
• 40 years of relevant experience preferred
• History fabricating MK104 motors at Promontory
• Degree in Chemical or Aerospace Engineering
• Prior experience in technical leadership of a solid propellant rocket motor development and/or qualification efforts
• Current active Security Clearance
Primary Level Salary Range: $147,700.00 - $221,500.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
