    JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

    The Plant Automation Controls Technician will install programs, maintains and troubleshoots automated and computer-controlled systems and robotic equipment. Key duties include diagnosing issues with electro-mechanical systems and PLCs, performing preventative maintenance, documenting procedures, collaborating with engineers, and ensuring safety standards are met. This role requires a strong foundation in electronics, mechanical systems, and computer programming.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    System Installation & Configuration:

    + Install and set up automated systems, including PLCs, HMIs, and robotic systems, to ensure proper communication and functionality.

    Maintenance & Calibration:

    + Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on automated equipment to ensure optimal performance and calibrate machines for accuracy.

    Troubleshooting & Repair:

    + Diagnose and resolve technical problems with control systems and electro-mechanical equipment on-site and remotely, sometimes by programming or replacing components.

    Documentation:

    + Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment usage, and system changes, often updating wiring schematics and software configurations.

    Technical Support & Training:

    + Provide technical guidance and training to operators and other technicians on equipment and software operation.

    Safety & Compliance:

    + Adhere to safety procedures, identify potential electrical problems, and design process improvements to ensure safe and efficient operation.

    Collaboration:

    + Work closely with engineers, operators, and management to implement new systems, upgrades, and resolve operational challenges.

    ESSENTIAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

    Electronics & Mechanical Systems:

    + A strong understanding of electronics, control components (like sensors and servos), and mechanical systems.

    Programming & Software:

    + Proficiency with programming PLCs and other computer systems, as well as various application software.

    Diagnostic Tools:

    + Skill in using diagnostic tools such as electric meters, oscilloscopes, and calibration devices.

    Computer Proficiency:

    + Basic to advanced computer skills, including data entry and the use of programs like Microsoft Office.

    Communication & Documentation:

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and documentation.

    Problem-Solving:

    + The ability to diagnose complex issues and implement effective solutions.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    + Associate's degree required preferably in Automation Technology, Robotics or Electrical Engineering. In lieu of associates degree, 10 plus years of direct control systems experience.

    + 4+ years’ experience in Automation, Manufacturing and Packaging Technologies in electrical & control systems within Consumer-Packaged Goods – preferably within the Food Industry

    + Previous experience with manufacturing food and beverage or consumer packaged goods companies is strongly preferred.

    + Previous experience in plant operations strongly preferred.

    + Demonstrates problem-solving, decision making, troubleshooting, communications, and interpersonal skills.

    + Ability to work with a team and influence diverse groups at various levels and across functions.

    + Ability to teach the fundamentals of electrical automation and control systems.

    + Strong knowledge and understanding of the primary codes and safety requirements applicable to controls safety systems, robotics, and power distribution equipment and systems.

    + Strong ability to utilize application, programming, and integration experience through a variety of hardware/software.

    + Experience with AB PLC / Rockwell Automation is plus.

    + Ability to troubleshoot PLCs at the code level and troubleshoot equipment and wiring.

    + Knowledge and experience in AutoCAD with the ability to create and read electrical & control schematics.

    + Strong understanding of low and medium voltage power distribution and associated equipment is preferred.

    + Must have knowledge of processing, packaging & facility systems.

    + Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Smartsheet, Word and EXCEL.

    + Ability to travel up to 5-10% of the time.

    The salary range for this role is $80,000-$110,000 (Annually). Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, and candidate skill set and experience. Base pay is just one component of Jack Link’s Total Rewards package for Team Members. Other rewards may include annual incentive and program-specific awards. Jack Link’s provides a variety of benefits to eligible Team Members, including medical, dental and vision benefits, life and disability insurance, 401k participation, paid holidays, and paid time off.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

     

    While performing the duties of this job the Team Member will be required to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (i.e beard/hairnet, ear plugs, frock, boots, etc), stand for extended periods of time, and use hands/arms to push, pull, reach and occasionally lift above head.  The Team Member must occasionally lift, push, pull up to 25 pounds and 50 pounds infrequently. Team Members are requested to visually inspect equipment and/or product.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a Team Member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is a plant setting with wet/slippery floors, varying degrees of temperatures with an average temperature of 40 degrees in the production area.  Team Members will be exposed to raw and/or cooked meat products and moving equipment and will be required to follow all Food Safety Quality requirements.
