    About you and this role:

    Dow has an exciting job opportunity for a Process Technician at the Bayport facility located in La Porte, Texas.

     

    Dow is looking for top-caliber, technically capable Process Technicians who embrace change, adapt fast, make decisions quickly, possess self-confidence and are lifelong learners. These positions require a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship.

     

    In this role, you will utilize operations knowledge and experience, to proactively operate the plant in a safe, reliable, and optimal manner. You will work with Shift Team members to efficiently anticipate and resolve unplanned events within the capabilities of the shift team and effectively escalates issues that cannot be resolved to the appropriate support roles.

    Responsibilities:

    + Performing routine operation of basic control systems and devices to monitor levels, temperatures, pressures and flow rates and transfer of products.

    + Lift hoses, bolt flanges and operate valves and similar equipment including the proper clearing and isolation of equipment.

    + Follow operating discipline, procedures and practices to ensure a safe and efficient operation of assigned duties.

    + Control, monitor and make necessary adjustments on control systems and manually operated equipment.

    + Troubleshoot process, product quality, safety, and environmental problems and identify equipment requiring maintenance.

    + Ensure safe and efficient performance of maintenance and project work.

    + Act as a resource for other Technicians on job tasks and prioritization of work activities.

    + Take ownership for the accurate completion of all assigned tasks.

    + Must certify on multiple roles which may include working as an inside Control Board Operator, Outside Operator or in a Relief Operator/Technician capacity, covering vacancies on multiple shifts.

    + Complete all duties as assigned with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship.

    + Join Houston Hub Emergency Response Team.

    + Able to certify as both inside and outside operator.

    Required qualifications:

    + A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED and one of the following is required:

    + Five (5) or more years of industrial experience.

    + Associate’s degree in process technology, science or engineering related field.

    + In lieu of a degree, Dow will consider those with three (3) or more years of military service in a technical specialty.

    + Willing and able to work a rotating shift and overtime as required.

    + Able to manage the physical and mental demand of monitoring control systems as a board operator during routine and non-routine operations.

    + Able to meet physical requirements for the emergency response team. 3-year commitment to join Houston Hub Emergency Response Team.

    + A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

    Preferred qualifications:

    + Experience as a Process Operator at a Chemical Plant, Refinery, or equivalent.

    + Process Technology Certification.

    + Advanced mechanical troubleshooting skills.

    Your skills:

    + Mechanical Aptitude:Mechanical aptitude is the ability to understand and use machines or tools.

    + Emergency Procedures:Plans or actions that are conducted quickly and effectively in response to a specific emergency situation that could pose an immediate risk to health, life, property, or the environment.

    + Chemical Processes:Understands basic chemical properties (i.e. pH, organics vs aqueous streams) reactions (i.e. exothermic reactions) or compounds (i.e. CO, CO2, H2O). A chemical process implies changing the forms of compounds or elements by mechanical force or by chemical reactions.

    + Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):PPE refers to clothing and gear properly donned and doffed such as gloves, safety glasses, hard hats, ear protection, chemical suits, respiratory protection and steel toed shoes. PPE helps protect against exposures by reducing risks commonly found in chemical manufacturing environments.

    + Risk Awareness:Risk awareness is the raising of understanding of what risks and hazards exist, their potential impacts, and how they are managed and mitigated.

    + Mechanical Principles:Mechanical reasoning associated with the basic operation and principles of pumps, valves, heat exchangers, distillation, boilers, etc.

    + Chemical Hazards:A type of occupational hazard that includes the risk of exposure to chemicals used in a manufacturing process. Exposure to chemicals in the workplace can cause acute or long-term detrimental health effects.

    + System Procedures:Refers to a documented approach for completing necessary steps which are designed to safely and efficiently accomplish tasks using detailed methods, procedures, checklists and routines.

    Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation:

    + Able to lift hoses, bolt flanges and operate valves and similar equipment as a normal part of the job.

    + Lift, push, and pull up to 55 lbs.

    + Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.

    + Stand, walk, stoop, and twist.

    + Stand 50% of the time.

    + Walk for extended periods of time

    + Work at heights, climb stairs, scaffolding, and ladders.

    + Work in tight and closed in spaces.

    + Wear all Personal Protective Equipment, as required, including but not limited to full face respirator or SCBA; and FRC clothing while performing outside duties.

    + Work in an area of intense or continuous noise.

    + Work in an area with hazardous materials.

    + Lift hoses, bolt flanges and operate valves and similar equipment as a normal part of the job.

    + Meet physical requirements for the emergency response team.

    + Able to lift hoses, bolt flanges and operate valves and similar equipment as a normal part of the job.

    + Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE), including harnesses with a total weight capacity of 300lbs.

    + This role does involve elevated work greater than or equal to four feet above the ground.
