About you and this role- What you will do in this role
Duties include ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Waste Treatment Plant in accordance with all applicable regulations and permit requirements. To achieve this it is necessary for the Waste Treatment Plant Operator to safely and efficiently operate area equipment and machines, facilitate flow and treatment of waste water, and monitor effectiveness of treatment. Shift work, overtime and call-outs will be required as needed for the safe and effective operation of the Waste Treatment Plant.
Responsibilities -Duties, projects, tasks, and activities you would be responsible for in this role
+ The duties described below are indicative of the Waste Treatment Plant Operator role; other duties may be assigned as needed.
+ Provide continuous and effective operation of the Waste Treatment Plant by: - Analyzing changes to flow and loading rates and making treatment adjustments as necessary.
+ Maintaining accurate records and documentation for the city, West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP), and other agencies.
+ Performing other duties as assigned by Management.
+ Demonstrate concern for satisfying customers by: - Being respectful and positive when dealing with customers (internal & external).
+ Supports the operations of the department by: - Effectively applying knowledge to solve a range of problems.
+ Effectively organizing all materials and equipment needed for task(s).
+ Operating the plant in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner.
+ Ensure that all activities are carried out in a safe manner, adhering to all applicable safety regulations by: - Assisting coworkers with the safe handling of equipment.
+ Adhering to all safety rules regarding confined space, trenching, etc.
+ Ensuring that he/she attends all training regarding safe operations to ensure personal safety and the safety of coworkers.
+ Ensuring that the Waste Treatment Plant’s equipment is safely operated and all driving laws are obeyed.
+ Assisting in the investigation and follow-up of on-the-job accident or injuries.
+ Fosters teamwork with co-workers by: - Listening and responding constructively to other team members.
+ Expressing disagreement constructively (e.g. emphasizing points of agreement, suggesting alternatives that may be acceptable to the group).
+ Takes responsibility for one’s own performance by: - With his/her manager, setting specific, measurable goals about what is to be done and how.
+ Promptly notifying his/her manager about any problems that affect his/her ability to accomplish planned goals.
+ Maintaining all licenses, certifications, etc. as well as continuing to learn new techniques and methodologies related to their field.
Qualifications- Required education, experience and abilities that are needed for this role (must haves)
+ A minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
+ A minimum of 1 year of experience at a Class I-IV Wastewater Treatment Plant in West Virginia.
+ A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Skills- An expanded list of qualifications that are "nice to have", but not essential
+ Associate’s degree or higher in a Science discipline.
+ West Virginia Class I, II, III or IV Wastewater Operator certification or have passed the West Virginia Waste Water Operator Class I test.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel.
+ Industrial environment experience.
Skills- Specific abilities and expertise required to perform tasks effectively in this role
+ Operational & Mechanical Proficiency:Ability to safely and efficiently operate wastewater treatment equipment and machinery, including adjusting treatment processes based on flow and loading rates.
+ Regulatory Compliance & Documentation:Skilled in maintaining accurate records for regulatory bodies like the WVDEP and ensuring operations meet all permit and safety requirements.
+ Problem Solving & Troubleshooting:Strong analytical skills to identify issues in treatment effectiveness and resolve equipment or process-related problems.
+ Safety Awareness & Physical Endurance:High regard for personal and team safety, with the ability to work in physically demanding environments including confined spaces, extreme weather, and exposure to hazardous materials.
+ Communication & Team Collaboration:Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work constructively with internal and external stakeholders and foster teamwork.
+ Time Management & Multitasking:Capable of managing multiple priorities, organizing materials and tasks efficiently, and responding promptly to operational needs including overtime and call-outs.
+ Technical & Digital Literacy:Ability to quickly learn new computer systems and use tools like Microsoft Word and Excel to support operations and reporting.
