Job Description
Olsson is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Federal Engineering and Design Team, where you’ll lead and advise on complex mechanical system designs for high-impact federal infrastructure projects. These include VA hospitals, DoD facilities, medical centers, data centers, and other government buildings that serve veterans, military personnel, and federal agencies.
As a senior engineer, you will provide high-level technical expertise, guide multidisciplinary teams, and ensure delivery of elevated, purposeful designs that meet federal standards and improve lives. You’ll conceptualize innovative mechanical solutions—including HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas systems—and oversee projects from concept through construction.
Key Responsibilities
+ Lead and oversee complex mechanical design efforts for federal, healthcare, and institutional facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas systems, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
+ Serve as technical lead and project manager on major federal projects, managing scope, schedule, and budgets while coordinating multi-disciplinary teams for integrated mechanical system solutions.
+ Review, approve, and enhance engineering documents, cost estimates, and design calculations, maintaining rigorous adherence to VA standards, UFC, IBC, ASHRAE, NFPA, and other federal regulations.
+ Guide and mentor junior engineers, fostering professional development and promoting best practices across design, documentation, and client engagement.
+ Lead and improve quality assurance/quality control processes, ensuring high-quality deliverables and resolving complex design challenges effectively.
+ Collaborate extensively with architects, engineering disciplines, federal clients, and stakeholders, ensuring seamless integration and clear communication throughout project lifecycles.
+ Represent Olsson in client meetings, site visits, and stakeholder presentations, providing expert technical guidance and strengthening client relationships.
+ Drive business development efforts by contributing strategic insights to proposals, scopes of work, and federal RFP responses to expand Olsson’s presence in the federal market.
+ Promote a collaborative, innovative, and growth-oriented team environment, championing continuous improvement and operational excellence across projects.
Preferred Qualifications
We’re looking for candidates who bring technical excellence, leadership, and a passion for federal service:
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
+ PE license (required).
+ 8+ years of experience in mechanical design, with strong preference for VA, DoD, or healthcare facility experience.
+ Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and HVAC design software.
+ Familiarity with VA design standards, federal project delivery processes, and commissioning protocols.
+ Strong communication skills and experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
+ Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Why Join Us
+ Contribute to projects that serve veterans, military personnel, and federal agencies.
+ Choose from remote, hybrid, or in-office arrangements that support your lifestyle and productivity.
+ Join a team that values mentorship, innovation, and shared success. We celebrate wins together and learn from challenges.
+ Advance your career through leadership roles, technical training, and exposure to high-profile federal clients.
+ Enjoy competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and a workplace culture that puts people first.
