    Company Description

We are Olsson, a team-based, purpose-driven engineering and design firm. Our solutions improve communities, and our people make it possible.

Our most meaningful asset is our people, and we are dedicated to providing an environment where they can continue to learn, grow, and thrive. Our entrepreneurial spirit is what has allowed us — and will continue to allow us — to grow. The result? Inspired people, amazing designs, and projects with purpose.

    Job Description

Olsson is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Federal Engineering and Design Team, where your advanced expertise will support the development of mission-critical infrastructure across the country. From military installations and VA hospitals to federal campuses and secure facilities, you’ll help shape the structural backbone of projects that serve national interests and improve lives.

This is more than a design role — it’s an opportunity to lead, advise, and innovate within a team that values technical excellence, client service, and community impact. You’ll apply advanced engineering judgment, guide multidisciplinary teams, and deliver high-quality structural solutions that meet federal standards and exceed expectations.

    Key Responsibilities

+ Lead and oversee structural engineering efforts for complex vertical infrastructure projects, including barracks, hospitals, administrative buildings, and specialized federal facilities within the federal sector.

+ Perform advanced structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood systems, ensuring rigorous compliance with UFC, IBC, ASCE, AISC, and other relevant federal and industry codes.

+ Develop, review, and approve comprehensive construction documents, including plans, specifications, and calculations, ensuring they meet high-quality standards and project objectives.

+ Serve as a technical expert and trusted advisor on complex projects by applying advanced engineering concepts and developing innovative design solutions to address challenging structural problems.

+ Collaborate extensively with architects, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering teams, as well as federal clients and stakeholders, to ensure seamless integration of structural systems and efficient project delivery.

+ Lead and mentor junior engineers, reviewing their work to maintain quality, foster technical growth, and promote a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.

+ Contribute to proposal development, scope definition, and federal RFP responses, playing a key role in expanding Olsson’s federal portfolio.

+ Participate in client meetings, site visits, and project presentations, representing Olsson with professionalism and authoritative structural expertise.

+ Assist in developing and refining internal engineering standards and guidelines to continuously improve project outcomes and team performance.

    Preferred Qualifications

We’re looking for candidates who bring both technical expertise and leadership potential:

+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis.

+ PE or SE license (required).

+ 8+ years of experience in structural design, ideally with federal clients or projects.

+ Proficiency in Autodesk, Revit, and similar analysis tools.

+ Familiarity with DoD, VA, and federal design standards and processes.

+ Strong communication skills, with the ability to lead meetings, coordinate teams, and engage with clients.

+ Experience managing project schedules, budgets, and deliverables is a plus.

    Why Olsson?

+ Contribute to projects that serve national interests and make a difference in communities.

+ Choose from remote, hybrid, or in-office arrangements that support your lifestyle and productivity.

+ Join a team that values mentorship, innovation, and shared success. We celebrate wins together and learn from challenges.

+ Advance your career through leadership roles, technical training, and exposure to high-profile federal clients.
