    Description

    The MacArthur Memorial is an internationally recognized museum and research center that preserves and presents the story of General of the Army Douglas MacArthur and that of the millions of men and women who served with him. A bureau of the City of Norfolk’s Cultural Facilities Arts & Entertainment Department, the MacArthur Memorial serves 120,000 people annually through exhibits, public programming, research support, and education outreach.

     

    The MacArthur Memorial is seeking a dedicated Event Support Crewmember I to join our team. In this role, you play a key role in ensuring museum spaces are welcoming to all and meet high standards for cleanliness and safety. Daily responsibilities include performing custodial tasks such as sanitizing, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and waste management, as well as conducting regular inspections of facilities to ensure all areas are clean and functional. The museum hosts several events per month, and part of your duties will also include assisting staff in preparing museum spaces to meet event needs. On occasion, you will support after-hour events.

     

    The Event Support Crewmember I is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable with physical tasks like lifting and moving equipment. The ideal candidate will also work well with other team members to ensure seamless operations, adapting to the dynamic needs of a busy cultural institution.

    Department Hiring Salary Range: $40,688 - $46,791

    Essential Functions

    Essential functions include but are not limited to:

    + Clean and disinfect common areas, kitchens, and offices. Replenish paper product, soaps, and other supplies. Dust, wash windows, walls, windowsills, mirrors and doors. Vacuuming and cleaning carpets.

    + Dispose of trash and recyclables following established protocols.

    + Maintain exterior of facility by cleaning and sweeping outdoor common areas, walkways and grounds, and picking up trash and debris.

    + Responds to spills and other cleanups required during normal operating hours.

    + Supports the set up and cleanup of special events

    + Aids in the transport and storage of special event equipment in designated facilities.

    + Utilizes safety equipment as needed while performing duties.

    + Maintains cleaning supply inventory and equipment

    + Supports occasional evening special events.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education/Experience

    Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.

    Additional Information & Requirements

     

    Work Location: MacArthur Memorial 198 Bank Street Norfolk, VA 23510

     

    Work Hours: 40 hours per week, Tuesday – Saturday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM; Must be able to work holidays and occasional evenings.

     

    + Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.

    + Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.

    + Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.

    + Retirement

     

    If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

     

    If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

     

    + The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
