Job Description

We're seeking a highly experienced engineer to join our DevOps team, with a focus on maintaining and improving our existing infrastructure platform, scaling our CI/CD capabilities, building custom tools and supporting our dev teams. This role requires deep Kubernetes and Helm expertise, with particular emphasis on networking (Istio service mesh preferred).

Skills and Requirements

• Platform Design, Operations & Consulting: Design, support, and maintain platform services including Kubernetes clusters, Kafka messaging infrastructure, CockroachDB, and other core platform components and integrations. Provide technical guidance and best practices to development teams on platform usage, architecture decisions, and infrastructure topics.

• CI/CD Strategy & Pipeline Architecture: Support and improve organization-wide CI/CD using GitHub Actions, Argo CD and Workflows, GitOps principles and evangelize GitOps best practices. Partner with the security team to maintain GitHub Advanced Security features including secret scanning, dependency review, and Dependabot workflows. Establish processes for vulnerability remediation and secrets management that align with organizational security policies.

• Infrastructure as Code Expertise & Consultation: Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code solutions using Terraform as our primary tool, provide guidance on IaC best practices and patterns, and serve as a technical resource for development teams implementing infrastructure automation.

• Monitoring & Observability: Work with Datadog and other monitoring tools to ensure comprehensive visibility into CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure health, work with dev teams to help them effectively leverage these tools.

• Work with senior leaders and stakeholders to drive strategic, long-term vision for DevOps and infrastructure capabilities. Translate business objectives into technical roadmaps, assess emerging technologies for organizational fit, and establish measurable goals for platform maturity and developer productivity improvements.

• Developer Tooling: Build custom automation tools and integrations to improve developer productivity and workflow efficiency. Evaluate, implement, and manage third-party developer tools and services.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of DevOps/Platform Engineering/SRE experience with a proven track record of scaling engineering practices

• Strong AWS expertise as primary cloud platform, with deep knowledge of core services, IAM, deployment patterns, OIDC integration, networking, and infrastructure management

• GitHub proficiency including GitHub Enterprise administration, Actions, Advanced Security, and API integration

• Infrastructure as Code mastery including module design and state management. Terraform experience preferred.

• Container orchestration experience with deployment strategies and platform management. Ideal candidates will have 4+ years experience with kubernetes, experience with ArgoCD and Istio preferred.

• CI/CD pipeline expertise across multiple platforms with focus on security, scalability, and developer experience. Argo and GitHub Actions experience preferred.

• Monitoring and Observability: Datadog experience preferred.

• Messaging/Streaming: Kafka experience preferred

• Database systems: CockroachDB experience preferred

• Automation mindset: Strong inclination to code and automate solutions rather than rely on manual processes. Programming experience for building tools and automation scripts.

• Communication & Documentation: Strong technical writing skills for creating runbooks, policies, and developer guides. Ability to translate technical concepts for various audiences and build consensus around platform decisions.
