Job Summary
The laboratory of Dr. Deanna Gates in theSchool of Kinesiology (https://www.kines.umich.edu/) at the University of Michigan seeks to hire a full-time Research Biomechanist to work on federally funded projects. This lab uses quantitative and qualitative methods to assess prosthetic interventions. The successful candidate will be reliable, conscientious, organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. This person will also possess excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and demonstrate cultural competence and a commitment to working with individuals with impairments.

Responsibilities*
Essential Functions are noted with an "EF"
Administrative tasks (10%):
+ Coordinating purchases with research administrator and other administrative staff as needed
+ Communicating with the IRB and FDA regarding on-going grants (EF)
Data collection tasks (40%):
+ Conduct biomechanics research under the direction of the PI (EF)
+ Preparing study materials, including recruitment materials and online surveys, for data collection
+ Development of software and/or hardware for data collection
+ Acting project manager of multidisciplinary projects of neurally-controlled prostheses (EF)
Research analysis and dissemination task (50%):
+ Conducting data analysis and preparing findings for presentation or publication
+ Statistical analysis of data using standard statistical software packages
+ Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications*
+ Master's degree in Biomechanics or related field
+ 2+ years of experience conducting biomechanics research with human subjects using standard biomechanics software such as Visual3D or OpenSim
+ 2+ years of experience coding, processing, and managing data using Matlab, Python, SPSS, or R
+ Excellent organizational skills
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)

Desired Qualifications*
+ 2+ years of experience in a research lab setting
+ Prior scientific publications and/or presentations

Additional Information
This is a term-limited appointment, funded for 2 years; the initial appointment may be extended depending on the availability of research funds and successful performance. The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $55,000, commensurate with education and experience, and eligibility to participate in the school's 2026 merit program. An offer may be extended outside the general salary range shared in this posting based on equity, experience, knowledge, and skills for this role. This is a full-time position with work taking place on-site at the School of Kinesiology, 830 N. University, Ann Arbor, MI.
