Job Summary
The Frankel IHBH and research laboratory of Dr. Anthony Rosenzweig in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI are in search of exceptional research laboratory technician intermediate to join the research team. The institute is situated in the heart of Michigan Medicine at the North Campus Research Complex in a newly renovated laboratory building within steps of a multitude of research resources, easy access to collaborators, and research services. A growing interest surrounds common mechanisms affecting both the heart and the brain, and how the organs signal to each other in health and disease. The animal research needs are rapidly expanding and in addition to surgical models, exercise models, general procedures, etc. we have recently added neurocognitive and behavioral testing to our repertoire of capabilities.

Responsibilities*
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team in supporting animal research activities across multiple Frankel IHBH research groups. This role involves a combination of hands-on animal testing, care, and lab maintenance responsibilities, all conducted under approved research protocols.
Animal Care & Testing:
+ Perform routine animal handling and care in accordance with established protocols.
+ Conduct regular testing procedures, including echocardiograms and behavioral assessments.
+ Assist with surgical procedures and cardiomyocyte isolation.
Facility & Equipment Maintenance:
+ Maintain the cleanliness and organization of all testing and procedure rooms, including behavioral testing areas, surgical suites, and general procedure rooms.
+ Monitor the condition and functionality of equipment and ensure all spaces are properly stocked with necessary supplies.
Operations Support:
+ Contribute to the development and refinement of internal standard operating procedures (SOPs).
+ Track and manage room and equipment usage to ensure optimal operation efficiencies.
+ Maintain accurate and timely records of all experimental results and procedures.
Colony Management:
+ Update and manage mouse colony tracking software to ensure accurate documentation and compliance.
Additional Duties:
+ Participate in other research-related activities based on the candidates skills and interests.
+ Collaborate with various research teams to support ongoing projects and initiatives.
Required Qualifications*
+ A bachelor's degree in biology or a related field is preferred or an associates degree and 1-2 years experience,
+ 4+ years of experience in mouse handling/breeding, mouse disease models, mouse tissue collection, and injections (subcutaneous and intraperitoneal).
+ Experience with cardiovascular and/or neurovacular murine models, and their analysis. Familiarity with these models (TAC, MI, IRI, and/or stroke) helpful.Ability to perform these models and echocardiography a major asset for this position.If not already skilled in these procedures, a willingness and ability to learn them is essential.
+ The role requires a strong work ethic, great organization, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
+ The position requires an advanced understanding and commitment to animal care and management
Desired Qualifications*
+ Skilled in the isolation of cardiomyocytes from adult and neonatal mice and rat hearts
+ Experience with surgical models of cardiovascular (TAC, MI, IRI) and neurovascular (e.g. MCAO or other stroke) models helpful
+ Skills in performing and analyzing murine cardiac echocardiograms helpful
+ Experience with neurocognitive and behavioral testing equipment and protocols

+ This position is M-F onsite at NCRC, preferred work schedule 8:30-4:30pm

Background Screening
