    Associate Director, Medical Affairs Stakeholder Relations & Communications

     

    The Associate Director, Medical Affairs Stakeholder Relations & Communications lead will be a key contributor to the organization's Medical Affairs team, responsible for shaping and managing the external perception and public relations activities related to the company's scientific and medical information. This role focuses on translating complex scientific data and medical advancements into clear, accessible, and compelling narratives for various external audiences, including media, patients, advocacy groups, and the general public. They will work to enhance the company's medical reputation, build trust, and ensure the accurate and ethical dissemination of information related to products, pipeline, and therapeutic areas. This role is for a strategic leader who can communicate scientific value, build relationships, and navigate the healthcare environment to achieve Medical Affairs goals. This role requires a communications professional with a passion for science and a deep understanding of the healthcare industry to effectively shape public perception, ensure trust, and ultimately support the organization's commitment to patients and medical advancement

    YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The primary responsibilities of this role, Associate Dir USMA Stakeholder Relations & Communications, are to:

    + Media Relations: Building and maintaining relationships with healthcare journalists, science writers, and medical reporters to proactively pitch stories, respond to media inquiries, and facilitate interviews with internal subject matter experts or key opinion leaders (KOLs).

    + Scientific Storytelling: Developing and disseminating scientifically accurate and engaging content, including press releases, media alerts, Q&As, key message documents, and educational materials tailored for various external audiences.

    + Reputation Management: Monitoring media coverage and public sentiment to proactively address potential issues, manage crises, and ensure transparent and timely communication during events like product recalls or safety updates.

    + Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with patient advocacy groups and professional societies to raise awareness, share information, and support patient-centric initiatives.

    + Content Development & Review: Overseeing the creation and review of communication materials, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, compliance guidelines, and company policies, in collaboration with medical, legal, and regulatory teams.

    + Thought Leadership: Identifying opportunities to position the company's medical experts as thought leaders through media engagements and expert commentary.

    + Congress & Event Support: Supporting public relations activities around key medical conferences and events, including media outreach, press conferences, and scientific presentations.

    + Issue & Crisis Management: Working in conjunction with corporate communications, legal, and other relevant teams to manage issues and crises effectively through transparent and timely communication

    + Measurement & Evaluation: Tracking and reporting on the effectiveness of PR campaigns and media coverage to demonstrate impact and inform future strategies

    WHO YOU ARE

    Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's degree;

    + Experience in public relations or corporate communications, preferably within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare industry.

    + Healthcare/Scientific Knowledge: Comfortable with medical and science-based content, with the ability to understand and simplify complex scientific information for lay audiences.

    + Media Relations Expertise: Demonstrated experience in building media relationships, pitching stories, and managing media inquiries.

    + Compliance Knowledge: Thorough understanding of regulatory guidelines and compliance requirements relevant to pharmaceutical communications.

    + Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear, compelling, and compliant messaging for various channels.

    + Media Relations: Strong media relations skills, including pitching stories, managing interviews, and responding to media requests.

    + Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and implement PR strategies aligned with Medical Affairs and corporate objectives.

    + Relationship Building: Skill in developing and maintaining strong relationships with journalists, stakeholders, and internal partners.

    + Crisis Management: Experience in managing and mitigating potential crises through effective communication,

    + Digital & Social Media Savvy: Familiarity with digital communication channels and social media strategies.

    + Travel: Ability to travel significantly for conferences, meetings, and field engagements.

    + Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.

    + Adaptability & Problem-Solving: Ability to adapt to evolving industry trends and swiftly navigate complex challenges.

    + Ethical Conduct: Upholding the highest standards of transparency and integrity in all communications

    Preferred Experience:

    + Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field. An advanced degree (e.g., Master's in Communications, Public Health)

    + 5+ years of experience in public relations or corporate communications, preferably within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare industry

     

    Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $133,558 – $200,337. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
