    Job Summary:

    As an Autonomy Engineering Specialist at Caterpillar, you will lead the engineering workstream to develop Caterpillar’s advanced safety, automated, and autonomous technology solutions to enable our customers to optimize their machines and jobsites. Starting with close alignment with commercial teams to understand the customer paint points, this role will create concepts of operation and translate them to functional requirements to capture how envisioned solutions will solve customer problems. This position will then work with divisions inside Caterpillar to drive end-to-end product development, product performance, safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, security, consistency, efficiency, ease-of-use, and validation.     What You Will Do:

    + Translate commercial requirements into concepts of operation to capture how envisioned solutions solve the customer’s problems

    + Own and lead the creation and trade-offs of end-to-end solution functional requirements

    + Define, deliver, and drive consistent solutions across Caterpillar

    + Collaborate and drive development across an enterprise matrix organization

    + Accountable for achieving end-to-end solution engineering time, cost, and quality program goals aligned to New Technology Introduction (NTI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) schedules.

    + Ensure end-to-end solution validation

    + Hands-on technical expert for product functionality and performance with involvement in proving ground, early learner, and field follow development

    + Mentor and develop junior staff to help grow and improve the team’s overall engineering capability

    What You Will Have:

    Influencing Through Expertise:

    Demonstrated ability to lead cross functional teams to develop technology through a large global matrix organization

     

    Strong interpersonal skills for influencing/persuasion, negotiating, and collaborating

    Communicating Complex Concepts:

    Demonstrated ability to take complex concepts and communicate them in a simple manner to ensure understanding of important aspects to customers, leaders, and development teams through verbal, written, and visual methods

     

    Demonstrated knowledge of tracking and communicating program schedules, tasks, and tracking progress along with associated budget

     

    **Technical Excellence** :

     

    Prior knowledge in capturing customer requirements and converting them to technical requirements while evaluating trade-offs

     

    Demonstrated knowledge of completing multiple New Technology Introduction (NTI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) product cycles

    Managing Multiple Priorities:

    Ability to handle multiple programs at a time by managing priorities

     

    Demonstrated ability to quickly adjust to changing priorities, navigating unforeseen challenges with a proactive mindset

    Considerations For Top Candidates:

    + Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Robotics, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university OR equivalent working experience

    + Experience in Construction Technology Development

    + Heavy Equipment Technology Development Experience

    + Construction Technology Application Experience including Mining Technology Application Experience

    + Demonstrated understanding of developing machine technology

    + Understanding of Construction Industry Applications, Mining Industry Applications, or related segments

    + Prior knowledge of assist, automation, or autonomy systems in the areas of positioning, planning, and/or perception

    + Stays current with emerging technologies in automation, autonomy, AI, and advanced sensing systems

    Summary Pay Range:

    $126,000.00 - $204,720.00

     

    Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
