The Opportunity
This position works out of our Pleasanton, CA location in the Heart Failure division. In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
In this role you are responsible for directing the manufacturing operations performed in a shift or group of production lines, ensuring they reach volume, quality and cost goals.
What You’ll Work On
+ Lead and manage daily operations of the packaging department to ensure efficiency and productivity.
+ Supervise, train, and develop packaging staff, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
+ Provide performance feedback and input to managers for appraisal of exempt employees; write and conduct appraisals for employees.
+ Schedule and assign tasks to ensure optimal staffing and workflow.
+ Ensure all packaging meets company quality standards and complies with regulatory requirements.
+ Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify and resolve quality issues.
+ Collaborate with Quality Assurance and cross-functional teams to address non-conformances.
+ Monitor packaging processes and identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, cost, and waste reduction. Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
+ Coordinate with inventory and supply chain teams to ensure adequate packaging materials are available.
+ Provide or locate technical expertise and guidance for day-to-day problems.
+ Track usage and manage inventory levels to prevent shortages or overstock.
+ Maintain accurate records of safety incidents and corrective actions.
+ Understand detailed area operations (function-specific). Regularly make decisions that impact quality, time, or cost. Timely decisions are required regarding issues such as whether to proceed or abort, work overtime, etc. Manage assigned projects and work cross-functionally to identify changes and necessary resources.
+ Assist employees in the creation of development plans and work with them to meet their development needs.
+ Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
+ Coach floor teams by providing guidance, direction, training, and resources.
+ Participate in and lead cross-functional teams to meet specific objectives.
+ Create a climate of trust and respect within the organization.
+ Maintain detailed records of production output, downtime, and other key performance indicators.
+ Conduct discussions with employees, including performance reviews, development, discipline, and staffing interviews.
+ Prepare and present reports on packaging performance, issues, and improvements to management.
+ Participate in meetings and contribute to strategic planning and decision-making.
+ Ensure GMP and regulatory compliance: Follow and work within ISO and GMP standards, perform GMP audits of the area, and allocate time and resources for ongoing GMP and regulatory training.
+ Provide information with appropriate clarity, timeliness, and frequency to meet the needs of the receiver. Distribute background information prior to meetings and conferences, provide adequate response time when making requests, and keep parties potentially affected by decisions apprised of events.
+ Confront issues that block individual and team performance. Voice opinions and concerns proactively, and work to establish areas of difference as well as common interest.
+ Recognize and reward performance: Jointly establish realistic yet challenging performance expectations with direct reports, provide ongoing feedback, use financial and non-financial rewards to recognize individual and team performance, and publicize accomplishments within the organization.
+ Plan for development of direct reports: Assess strengths and development needs, provide feedback, contribute to development plans, and offer opportunities for growth, learning, and job enrichment.
+ Recognize risk in relation to procedures and take appropriate action.
+ Identify and implement cost reductions.
+ Provide budget recommendations, perform cost reduction and variance analysis.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree engineering discipline
+ 2+ years' experience in a GMP Manufacturing Environment
Preferred Qualifications
+ 4+ years of related work experience
+ Experience with packaging and sterilizing processes
+ Supervisor/Management experience, managing team of operators is preferred

The base pay for this position is $79,500.00 – $138,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
