    Job Description:

    + We are seeking an Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer (Advanced Sensing Systems) to design, develop, and validate complex mechanical systems that operate reliably in challenging outdoor environments. This role will be instrumental in shaping hardware solutions by leveraging your expertise in manufacturing, materials, mechanical design, and simulation, powering next-generation sensing technologies for large-scale mapping and spatial awareness products.

    Responsibilities:

    + Lead mechanical design efforts for advanced sensing hardware, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including optics, structures, materials, and software.

    + Create detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, and documentation adhering to GD&T (ASME Y14.5) standards to translate concepts into manufacturable designs.

    + Perform failure analysis, mechanical simulations (FEA, CFD), and direct validation tests to ensure system reliability in harsh environmental conditions such as temperature extremes, humidity, and outdoor exposure.

    + Drive strategic investments in tooling, manufacturing processes, and materials to solve present and future engineering challenges.

    + Manage end-to-end documentation throughout the product lifecycle, including design requirements, test results, and validation reports.

    + Communicate technical insights, project progress, and design decisions effectively to leadership and stakeholders.

    Experience:

    + A mechanical engineering expert with deep knowledge of manufacturing techniques (machining, sheet metal, injection molding, welding, casting, composites, additive manufacturing).

    + Experienced in engineering materials relevant to outdoor sensing systems, including metals, polymers, composites, adhesives, and ceramics.

    + Proficient in CAD modeling, mechanical design, and GD&T to deliver high-quality, detailed designs.

    + Skilled in mechanical analysis using FEA, CFD, or similar tools to predict performance and guide design choices.

    + Well-versed in opto-mechanics and able to integrate mechanical precision with optical system requirements.

    + A strong communicator who proactively provides updates, generates reports, and presents findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

    + Experienced in collaborating across multiple teams to deliver complex hardware systems.
