Benefits Specialist - Leave of Absence Coordinator

Duration: 6 months contract (with possible extension)
Summary
+ The Benefits Specialist is a member of the Human Resources (HR) team with shared accountability for the success of the Department. In coordination with the Director, Benefits, the Benefits Specialist is primarily responsible for the planning and coordinating of leaves of absence (including claims administration, regulatory compliance, vendor management, data analysis and reporting). The Benefits Specialist regularly interacts with colleagues, managers, HR business partners using a consultative and service-oriented approach, works independently using appropriate judgement and discretion to address colleague questions and concerns.
Duties/Responsibilities – what you will be doing:
+ Provide support for leaves of absence administration for employees, supervisors, and managers in compliance with company, federal and state leave laws including FMLA, PFML, MMLA, SNLA, ADA and Worker’s Compensation.
+ Work closely with outsourced leave administration vendor to ensure all leaves are managed appropriately. Escalate issues and resolve problems.
+ Provide and implement process improvement recommendations in leave/disability administration program.
+ Provide consultation to managers, supervisors and colleagues related to leaves of absence/disability and workers compensation programs.
+ Notification of Worker’s Compensation injuries to third party administrator.
+ Work with routine and ADA related ergonomic requests and follow-up.
+ Support ADA claims administration and coordinate bi-weekly calls with internal resources and leave administrator.
+ Acts as escalated point of contact for colleague benefit questions for LOA. Provides independent and timely responses to inquiries received from colleagues through Workday case, email box or voicemail. Reassigns/forwards requests, calls, and emails as appropriate. Educates colleagues about benefit options.
+ Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
+ Provide good judgment, initiative, and sound decision-making to proactively identify and resolve issues timely.
+ Participate and assist in the improvement, communication and training of HR processes, policies and programs.
+ Participate in departmental and interdepartmental meetings as necessary.
+ Participate in ad hoc projects as needed.
+ Encourage and precipitate a collaborative work environment among team members.
Certification and Licensure
Education
+ Required (minimum): Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred: Experience
+ Required (minimum): Minimum 5 years experience in colleague benefit program administration
+ Understanding of FMLA, state laws and regulations as well as prior LOA administration experience
+ Hands-on computer experience with Microsoft Office products and HR systems
+ Preferred: Knowledge of the managed care/ health care industry
