Introduction
The product engineer supports the service structure and serviceability of a product. They are typically called in to provide technical expertise for critical situations. Product engineering works with Development, Engineering Test, RAS (Reliability and Serviceability) and others early in the development cycle to learn the designs and implementation of systems/subsystems, then acts as an interface to the field in resolving complex problems for customers. Product Engineering provides support to Remote Support Centers to develop and drive the implementation of product repair, field management, and problem resolution strategies. People in this role perform break-fix support, critical situation support, customer impact event repair action analysis, and field engineering change support. They participate in Early Ship Programs in preparation for Post GA (General Availability).
This particular position will be to support the area supporting the Central Electronics Complex (CEC) for the IBM Z Brand Mainframe platform as part of a team of experts in CEC PE for current and future products. Software background is helpful and some knowledge of Logical Partitioning and SYSPLEX design is desired to be of immediate assistance to the team. Off shift coverage will be required as part of a normal rotation.
This is also a great opportunity to leverage your technical knowledge to design and develop solutions that range from web services to web applications to backend systems to create productivity aids as well as data analysis tools for general team usage.
Your role and responsibilities
Product Engineers (PEs) support the structure, development, and serviceability of IBM Z products and solutions (mainly hardware). They provide expert-level technical support for critical situations, collaborating with Development and Engineering Test teams early in the development cycle. PEs use advanced technical and soft skills to interface with remote support, field engineers, and clients, resolving complex issues and driving client satisfaction. Additionally, PEs design and deliver product and solution education and technical support documentation.
Required technical and professional expertise
* Hands on experience with CPU to memory operations including clocking circuit and cryptographic methods.
* Hands on experience programming in one or more object-oriented languages such as Python / Java/C# or C+* Strong problem-solving skills
* Excellent communication skills and technical writing experience.
Preferred technical and professional experience
* Knowledge and some experience troubleshooting customer problems with environments consisting of complex software/hardware stacks.
* Knowledge and some experience with call flow and support organizations
* Knowledge of logical partitioning
* Basic knowledge in zSystems
* Bachelor's in Computer or Electrical Engineering
