The NYC Department of Probation (DOP) is a world leader in working creatively and effectively engaging with people under court-mandated community supervision. Reporting directly to the Assistant Commissioner of IT, the Director of Information Technology will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across all IT functions within DOP. This role is critical to advancing the agency’s mission through secure, resilient, and mission-aligned technology systems. The Director will work closely with executive leadership, internal stakeholders, and citywide IT partners to ensure that DOP’s digital infrastructure supports public safety, justice reform, and community engagement.
The Director will oversee four core operational groups within the Office of Information Technology (OIT):
OIT Service Desk – Ensuring responsive and high-quality end-user support.
OIT Desktop Support – Managing endpoint devices, configurations, and user access.
OIT Applications Support – Supporting enterprise applications and business systems.
OIT Infrastructure Support – Maintaining network, server, and cloud infrastructure.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Lead the development and execution of DOP’s IT strategy and roadmap, emphasizing equity, transparency, accessibility, security, and compliance.
Oversee core IT operations including network infrastructure, systems administration, enterprise applications, cybersecurity, cloud services, and service desk support.
Direct and coordinate the activities of the four OIT groups to ensure seamless service delivery and operational excellence.
Manage the planning, execution, and delivery of complex technology projects, ensuring alignment with agency goals, timelines, and budgets.
Champion data governance and integration efforts to promote secure, transparent, and efficient data sharing across internal teams and external partners.
Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership on digital transformation, systems modernization, cybersecurity risk management, and IT operations.
Supervise vendor procurement, contract negotiation, and performance management to ensure cost-effective and compliant service delivery.
Build, mentor, and lead a multidisciplinary IT team, fostering a culture of innovation, equity, and accountability.
Collaborate with NYC OTI, NYC Cyber Command, NYS ITS, and other external partners to ensure DOP’s systems meet public safety and citywide standards.
Maintain a proactive approach to cybersecurity, including risk assessments, incident response planning, and compliance with city and state regulations.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and adoption of emerging technologies to enhance service delivery and operational resilience.
Hours/shifts are dependent on the needs of the Department. Candidates may be required to work various shifts including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
4. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above.

Salary Min: $ 75,000.00
Salary Max: $160,000.00
