    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Roles & Responsibilities

    + **Educational Leadership**

    + Educational responsibilities are inclusive of the Residency in Aerospace Medicine, combined Residency in Aerospace Medicine/Internal Medicine, combined Residency in Aerospace Medicine/Emergency Medicine, and other current or future programs involving Aerospace Medicine.

    + Assist in residency curriculum development and implementation aligned with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and UTMB standards.

    + Serve as liaison between the Division of Aerospace Medicine and both internal and external stakeholders to help navigate training requirements for the residents and develop Aerospace Medicine curricula.

    + Support integration of classroom academics with field practicum experiences, including rotations at government, academic, military, and commercial space entities.

    + Ensure residents receive comprehensive training in aerospace physiology, operational space medicine, and preventive medicine.

    + Provide direct mentorship and supervision to residents.

    + Participate in resident recruitment, selection, and onboarding.

    + Contribute to resident evaluations, feedback, Clinical Competency Committee, and Program Evaluation Committee activities.

    + Develop and teach lecture materials/courses as part of the Master of Science in Aerospace Medicine degree.

    + Assist in development and coordination of other educational sessions (e.g., didactics, journal club, grand rounds).

    + Manage other educational efforts within the Division including, but not limited to, the Aerospace Medicine Scholarly Concentration with the John Sealy School of Medicine.

    + Teach special topic courses and resident didactics with Aerospace Medicine content.

    + Collaborate with the Division faculty and staff on strategic planning, accreditation compliance, and continuous program improvement.

    + Represent the program in institutional, national, and possibly international forums (e.g. Graduate Medical Education, ACGME, ABPM, AsMA).

    + **Research & Scholarship**

    + Promote and participate in scholarly activities, research, and grants related to aerospace medicine.

    + Support residents and other applicable trainees in research design, publication, and presentation.

    + Conduct and publish research.

    + Support grants and contracts as needed for the Division, e.g. Human Health and Performance Contract 2 (HHPC-2)

    + **Global & Operational Engagement**

    + Foster partnerships with international aerospace medicine organizations and agencies.

    + Engage in UTMB Division of Aerospace Medicine global training mindset, including academic partnerships, exposure to travel medicine, global health, telemedicine, and remote monitoring.

    + **Strategic Collaboration**

    + Engage with other divisions and departments at UTMB to support interdisciplinary strategic initiatives.

    + Contribute to the development of innovative programs and partnerships that advance the mission of aerospace medicine.

    + Participate in aerospace related activities with government, commercial space, military, academic, and other partners.

    + Participate in other Division related strategic development endeavors.

    + **Clinical Responsibilities**

    + As needed, for government, commercial or military customers, provide Aerospace Medicine consultant expertise, support medical evaluation of spaceflight participants, and/or provide direct flight surgeon operational support in the preflight, on-orbit, and postflight time periods.

    + **Other duties**

    + As assigned by the Division Director in alignment with institutional goals and objectives.

    _MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:_

    + **Education:**

    + Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or equivalent degree.

    + Master of Science in Aerospace Medicine or equivalent degree (e.g., Master of Public Health).

    + **Certification** :

    + Board certification in a clinical medicine discipline, e.g. Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine.

    + Current board certification in Aerospace Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) or the American Osteopathic Board of Preventive Medicine (AOBPM).

    + **Licensure:**

    + Current Texas Medical License or ability to obtain such license within six (6) months of start date.

    + **Experience** :

    + Minimum of one year of experience in Aerospace Medicine practice and/or education.

    + **Citizenship** :

    + Must be a United States Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Minimum 3 years of experience in Aerospace Medicine practice and/or education.

    + Prior academic or residency leadership experience.

    + Experience with operational aerospace environments and providing medical support for human spaceflight activities (e.g., NASA, military, commercial space).

    + Strong record of scholarly activity and publication.

    + Training as an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME).

    SALARY:

    Commensurate with experience.
