Work Arrangement
Onsite – This role requires the employee to be onsite on a regular basis. The primary work location will be the General Motors Global Technical Center in Warren, MI.
The Role
General Motors is seeking a **Safety System Solutions Architect** to lead the development, coordination, and implementation of safety strategies across a wide range of automated and semi-automated equipment and systems. This role is critical in ensuring that all manufacturing, assembly, and warehousing facilities across North America maintain a **uniform, world-class safety standard** that meets or exceeds applicable regulations and internal policies.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in industrial safety standards, automation technologies, and cross-functional leadership. You will serve as the **central authority** for machine and system safety, ensuring that all equipment—from individual machines to full end-to-end automation systems—are designed, deployed, and operated with safety as a top priority
What You’ll Do
+ **Lead the development and enforcement of internal safety policies and standards** for automated systems across all North American facilities.
+ **Coordinate safety architecture and compliance** across a wide range of equipment, including but not limited to:
+ AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles)
+ AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots)
+ ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems)
+ Conveyors and Sortation Systems
+ Cobots and Industrial Robots
+ Robotic Cells and Workstations
+ Palletizing/Depalletizing Systems
+ Automated Packaging Equipment
+ Vision-Guided Systems
+ Safety PLCs and Interlock Systems
+ Autonomous Forklifts and Tugger Systems
+ **Ensure compliance with international and regional safety standards** , including ISO, ANSI, RIA, CSA and others.
+ **Collaborate with engineering, operations, EHS, and legal teams** to ensure safety is embedded in the design and operation of all systems.
+ **Conduct safety risk assessments, audits, and validations** for new and existing systems.
+ **Standardize safety validation protocols and documentation** across all facilities.
+ **Serve as the subject matter expert (SME)** for safety-related inquiries, incident investigations, and regulatory inspections.
+ **Lead cross-regional safety councils or working groups** to align safety practices across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
+ **Stay current with emerging technologies and evolving safety standards** , and proactively integrate them into GM’s safety architecture.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
+ 8+ years of experience in industrial automation and safety, including hands-on experience with robotic and automated systems.
+ Deep knowledge of machine safety standards (ISO, ANSI, RIA, CSA).
+ Proven experience leading cross-functional safety initiatives across multiple sites or regions.
+ Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies (e.g., HARA, FMEA, SISTEMA).
+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety, Industrial Automation, or related field.
+ Excellent communication and leadership skills.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
+ Certified Functional Safety Engineer (CFSE, TÜV, or equivalent).
+ Experience with automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments.
+ Familiarity with digital twin or simulation tools for safety validation.
