    Job Description

    Job Responsibilities:

    - Develop and validate ant-derived DNA barcoding protocols to detect and identify invasive arthropod pests

     

    - Conduct population genetic and genomic analyses (e.g., microsatellites, SNP genotyping, ddRADseq) to assess genetic diversity and population structure of target invasive species

     

    - Design and perform microbiome sequencing and behavioral experiments to investigate microbial influences on fire ant behavior

     

    - Collect, analyze, and archive research data; establish and maintain databases; and utilize computational tools for data analysis

     

    - Perform experiments to evaluate the nutritional roles of endosymbionts in invasive pest ants

     

    - Interpret data, prepare figures, draft research manuscripts, and present findings at scientific meetings

     

    - Train and supervise research support staff, graduate students, and other lab personnel

     

    - Perform other related duties as assigned

    Required Education/Experience:

    - Ph.D. in Entomology, Molecular Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, Invasion Biology, Genomics, or a closely related field

     

    - Ph.D. must be awarded no more than three years prior to the effective date of appointment

    Required knowledge, skills or abilities:

    - Ability to design and execute independent research projects

     

    - Excellent written and oral communication skills

     

    - Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a collaborative team environment

    Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities:

    - Strong background in -omics techniques and bioinformatics

     

    - Experience with large-scale population genetic/genomic analyses

     

    - Strong publication record in relevant scientific journals

     

    - Ability to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks as directed by the supervisor
