Overview
UMIAQ Design is seeking an architectural designerto collaborate on building design projects across the state of Alaska. The UMIAQ Design architectural team is actively working on many exciting long term design projects. The architectural designerwill work and interact with a small team of professionals in a collaborative office setting.
Responsibilities
Esential functions will include:
+ Develop building design and construction drawings with Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit software
+ Stay current on materials, building technologies, and construction methods
+ Selecting and evaluating building products and materials
+ Ensure that designs comply with local, state, and federal building codes and regulations
+ Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and other professionals involved in the design process
+ Review construction materials and techniques to ensure they meet quality standards
+ Collaborate with clients to determine project requirements and design parameters
+ Assist in the development and presentation of design proposals and designs.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Final year ofor hascompleteda Bachelor of Architectureor Master’s in Architecture from an accredited program.
+ Strong design skills and ability to communicate design ideas clearly.
+ Attention to detail, motivated, and self-reliant.
+ Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit Design software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
+ Knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes and regulations.
+ Arctic or northern design experience is desirable.
+ Understanding of building materials and methods.
+ Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, construction workers, and other professionals involved in the design and construction process.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
+ Critical thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ 3+ years of related work experience in an architectural office.
+ Surveying background.
Physical and Mental Demands:
+ Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
+ Frequent hand and finger use for drafting, typing, and design software.
+ Visual acuity to read, analyze, and produce detailed drawings and specifications.
+ Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching to handle files, drawings, or models.
+ Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds of documents or equipment.
+ Mental focus to concentrate on complex technical tasks for extended periods.
+ Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
+ Problem-solving, analytical thinking, and creativity required in design work.
+ Strong communication and collaboration skills to interact with teams and clients.
Working Conditions:
+ Work is primarily performed in an office setting with standard office equipment.
+ Some travel required to project sites and client meetings.
+ Site visits may involve walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs, or entering active construction areas.
+ May occasionally be exposed to weather conditions during site inspections.
+ Work hours are generally standard but may require flexibility to meet project deadlines.
+ Occasional travel to remote jobsites in Alaska accessible via small aircraft or other small motorized vehicles.
