    Duties Description The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) offers nutrition education, breastfeeding support, referrals, and a variety of nutritious foods to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, infants, and children up to age five to promote and support good health. The Health Program Administrator (HPA) will work in the Program Communication and Collaboration Section (PCCS). The PCCS is responsible for managing core outreach, retention, caseload management, certification, and breastfeeding elements essential to providing high quality, participant-centered services to WIC participants.The HPA will primarily assist with interpretation of federal and state regulations and drafting of program policies, procedures, training materials, and provide technical assistance related to caseload, certification, eligibility, outreach, language access, civil rights, and other subject matter areas. This will require the ability to translate technical information into plain language. The HPA will participate in WIC management information system (NYWIC) testing, develop training materials, and work to resolve Help Desk tickets as assigned. This position will support bureau and PCCS projects, initiatives, and USDA mandates by preparing data requests, publications/reports and official correspondences professionally and in a timely manner. The HPA will perform job functions within a team environment and work with other staff/Sections on cross-cutting activities to achieve common goals.

     

    Minimum Qualifications NY HELPS: Trainee 1: A bachelor's degree or higher.Trainee 2: A bachelor's degree and one year of experience in the administration, supervision and oversight of agency programs including the design, implementation, administration, management, operation, and assessment of program effectiveness. A Juris Doctor, master's or higher degree in a related field can substitute for one year of specialized experience.Grade 18: A bachelor's degree and two years of experience in the administration, supervision and oversight of agency programs including the design, implementation, administration, management, operation, and assessment of program effectiveness. A Juris Doctor, master's or higher degree in a related field can substitute for one year of specialized experience. Reassignment: Current NYS Department of Health (DOH) employee with permanent or contingent permanent status as a Health Program Administrator, Grade 18.Transfer: Current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent permanent, competitive service in a title eligible to transfer to a Health Program Administrator, Grade 18. Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will possess strong analytical and computer skills, as well as excellent written and organizational abilities. Experience with Microsoft Office and SharePoint is required. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to coordinate and manage multiple activities, work independently, and collaborate effectively as a part of a team. Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with staff across multiple units to coordinate work are also essential.

     

    Additional Comments This position is part of the NYS HELPS program. No examination is required.
