    Job Summary

    The major duties of the Maintenance Tech are to guarantee the maintenance of mechanical processes in a manner that will ensure the highest reliability. The Maintenance Tech performs repairs on malfunctioning motors, controls, pumps, and other components. The Maintenance Tech job may also involve operating machines and equipment such as grinder, and lathe. They are also liable for the safe utilization of hand tools, lift trucks, hoists and power tools.

     

    The Maintenance Tech works closely in the operating location in which they are designated to provide intellectual wisdom into the operation of their unit’s concepts, to guarantee that business and objectives are attained.

     

    He/she will always take full responsibility for their work and render assistance in any capacity to ensure security of contractors and team members.

     

    The Maintenance Tech will carry out the necessary troubleshooting of processes and should have the relevant skills to perform diagnosis of hydraulic, mechanical and pneumatic problems in relation to process equipment.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    + Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.

    + Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.

    + Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.

    + Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.

    + Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.

    + Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.

    + Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.

    + Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.

    + Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.

    + Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.

    + Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

    + Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.

    + Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

    + Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

    + Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

    + Troubleshoot and repair vacuum system failures on railcar unloader systems as well as hopper loader systems for machines.

    + Exercise safety when using hand tools as well as power tools.

    + Have skills for using hand and power tools for light fabrication and welding.

    + Exercise good housekeeping, well organized toolbox and shop.

    + Perform PMs on machines that are assigned weekly.

    + Perform repairs on production-down equipment

    + Perform other tasks as instructed by management.

    Education and Experience:

    + 3 years of industrial maintenance mechanic or equivalent.

    + Outstanding experience and expertise in maintenance and installation work on plant electrical mechanisms and equipment

    + Proficient with pneumatics-solenoid valves, actuator and control operations and can read schematics

    + Proficient with basic hydraulic system operations

    + Ability to analyze problems and error conditions, identify root causes, and implement viable long-term solutions

    + Safety oriented

    Travel:

    Business travel as needed up to 5%.

    Work Environment:

    This job operates in a plant environment. Based on job description, the role will either use standard office equipment or equipment as specified on the plant floor to produce the products for the company. Individuals with physical/mental disabilities are eligible for the position provided they can perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation unless the accommodation would cause an undue hardship. Please see supervisor on specific work hours required to support business operations. For some roles, standard operation hours: Monday to Sunday from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm, 7:00pm - 7:00am rotating shifts.

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach with hands and arms during shifts; handle, or feel objects, manufacturing physical tools or controls; climb up and down stairs; balance; effective verbal communication; the ability to respond quickly to sounds and instructions. Lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds regularly and those weighing up to 40 pounds occasionally.
