    Job Description

    This Electrical Engineer 3 position is within the Substation Design organization, responsible for developing technical electrical designs and standards for substation projects. The role involves leading a technical team, developing project scopes, and providing expertise throughout the construction and closeout phases. Projects include reactor groups, capacitor groups, station service overhauls, power transformer replacements, power circuit breaker replacements, and more. The position requires collaboration with Project Managers, Real Property Services, the Construction Acquisition Team, Environmental and Cultural Resources, and other representatives across the organization.

    Responsibilities

    + Serve as an Electrical Design Engineer on multiple projects, providing expert electrical design engineering guidance.

    + Receive and review preliminary project documentation and validate project details.

    + Collaborate with Project Managers to set and revise design due dates as needed.

    + Coordinate and facilitate project meetings, including design team meetings and project kick-offs.

    + Provide technical input and recommendations to facilitate project decision-making.

    + Arrange and facilitate site visits for the project design team and other essential personnel.

    + Draft project documents, presentations, and communications, and distribute them timely.

    + Provide recommendations regarding project expectations, approach, roadmaps, and deliverables.

    + Facilitate the completion of technical design efforts and ensure documentation is distributed for construction.

    + Create technical electrical designs and standards for substation projects.

    + Review and comment on technical electrical designs submitted by contracted engineering firms.

    + Interact and collaborate with external stakeholders, managing complex business relationships.

    + Verify Project Requirement Diagrams and necessary planning information for project designs.

    + Conduct reviews of Stage Gate 3 estimates and provide input and recommendations.

    + Serve as point of contact for the project team, providing technical input and recommendations.

    + Provide or coordinate technical support throughout the design and construction phases.

    + Complete technical design efforts for high voltage (69kV-500kV) substation projects.

    + Create, revise, and review engineering standards to support substation design.

    + Facilitate planning, engineering, and design efforts for installation of substation equipment.

    + Serve as a technical liaison during design and construction phases, resolving any discrepancies.

    + Coordinate with internal and external technicians to issue design specifications on schedule.

    + Make recommendations on the application of electrical codes and safety standards.

    + Select and apply analytical techniques to model and analyze the effects of design strategies.

    + Coordinate and facilitate planning and organization of substation design projects.

    + Perform print verification and project planning in energized substations.

    + May serve as escort to employees and contractors without access permits.

    + Provide technical expertise in scoping substation projects.

    Essential Skills

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.

    + 10 years of experience in engineering design development related to high voltage substations or related systems.

    + 3 years of working knowledge of high voltage systems, system control, communications, and relay planning.

    + Experience with SCADA, relaying, metering, Digital Fault Recorder (DFR), and Remedial Action Schemes (RAS).

    + Knowledge of National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, and NERC CIP standards.

    Work Environment

    The Substation Design organization plays a critical role in transmission construction projects, providing electrical engineering expertise across multiple project teams. The environment involves a slower-paced office setting with flexible hours and business casual attire. The role requires independent work, often waiting on approvals and paperwork, and is deadline-driven. Collaboration with various personnel, stakeholders, and contractors is essential.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $70.00/hr.
