    Job Summary:

    Responsible for the standardization of sterile processing policies and procedures, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement and infection control initiatives through education and training across a market or region. Ensures and updates competencies of all staff.

    Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Assists with Sterile Processing Department (SPD) with the responsibility of educating, updating and creating competencies, policies and procedures pertaining to effective surgical instrument/equipment reprocessing.

    + Develops and conducts education programs that enable staff to acquire and maintain the knowledge, rationale, certification and skills necessary to support operations and organizational goals.

    + Ensures and updates competencies of all SPD staff and maintains departmental education records in compliance with regulatory guidelines such as AAMI, IAHCSMM, ANSI, and Joint Commission, in alignment with SSM Policies.

    + Participates in all onboarding and orientation activities and tracking in coordination with manager, completing all required observations and documentation. Creates and implements any training related to new equipment or technology (or in coordination with vendor education/training program ensuring competency by SPD staff).

    + Creates and implements an ongoing annual education plan for all SPD employees that meets Join Commission, OSHA and other regulatory requirements in addition to growth and development of staff to advance quality initiatives and strategic plan.

    + Participates in continuous quality improvement activities to ensure the provision of safe and quality patient care. Prepares all team members for successful completion of required certification within the first year of hire.

    + Oversees quality and infection control initiatives for SPD. Performs quarterly audits of employee records.

    + Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION

    + Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience

    EXPERIENCE

    + Two years experience in Sterile Processing or Surgical Technologist with one year as a lead or educator

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    + Constant standing and walking.

    + Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.

    + Frequent reaching and gripping.

    + Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.

    + Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, squatting, twisting and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.

    + Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.

    + Occasional use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.

    + Occasional use of smell to detect/recognize odors.

    + Rare crawling, sitting and keyboard use/data entry.

    REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

    + Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA)

    + Or
