We are seeking a **Staff Chief Engineer** at Northrop Grumman Defense Systems to work onsite in Colorado Springs, Colorado as the JTAGS Chief Engineer.
The Chief Engineer will be accountable for the management and oversight of the technical baseline, solving technical execution concerns (i.e. Root Cause & Corrective Action performance), serving as an independent advisor to program management and coordinating across all engineering disciplines on the program to ensure the program teams adhere to engineering processes in accordance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The JTAGS Chief Engineer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
+ Serves as the primary technical authority for the program, leading the engineering team and ensuring all technical efforts align with program objectives.
+ Provides technical direction and oversees the execution of engineering processes, including design, development, implementation, integration, and testing.
+ Ensures adherence to systems engineering best practices throughout the project lifecycle, including requirements elicitation, validation, and verification processes.
+ Acts as a technical point of contact for customers, facilitating effective communication and resolving technical inquiries to maintain customer satisfaction.
+ Identifies, assesses, and manages technical risks throughout the project, employing effective risk management strategies in collaboration with program management.
+ Conducts technical reviews to evaluate engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with quality standards and promoting continuous improvement initiatives.
+ Provides leadership in failure/anomaly investigations and presents findings to both internal and external review boards to inform decision-making.
+ Collaborates across various engineering teams and disciplines, ensuring adherence to company policies and practices while fostering a culture of innovation.
+ Monitors and reports technical performance metrics.
+ Manages and mitigates engineering technical risks and opportunities.
The JTAGS Chief Engineer must have the ability to analyze complex situations and develop effective solutions. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience leading large-scale, multi-disciplinary engineering teams in the development of defense systems, with a focus on delivering innovative, mission-critical solutions. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with various teams and stakeholders, including potentially drafting and presenting to corporate leadership and customers.
Basic Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline, with 12+ years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with 10+ years of experience.
+ Active U.S. Citizenship and current TS/SCI clearance at the time of application.
+ Significant experience in leading multi-disciplinary technical teams or serving in a previous chief engineer role.
+ Proven experience in systems development, integration, and testing.
+ Proficient in interfacing effectively with program leadership, management, customers, and technical experts.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage the technical development and direction for all aspects of engineering on a program including design, development, implementation, testing, technical debt, and delivery of product to a customer.
+ Direct experience serving as the technical authority for programs, including serving as chair or lead of Technical Review Boards and Change/Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) and knowledgeable of configuration management tools.
+ Direct experience assessing that identified requirements and constraints are clear, unambiguous, consistent, attainable, verifiable, and complete from a technical perspective.
+ Demonstrated ability to identify and own risks and opportunities associated with system performance.
+ Experience ensuring programs adheres to sound engineering processes in development, production, test, and sustainment in accordance with company policies, processes, and quality standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Missile event/warning domain experience
+ JTAGS experience
+ Satellite operations/ground station operations experience
+ Master’s degree in STEM or technical management.
+ Expertise in space missions, defense systems, or complex technology projects.
+ Exceptional communication skills and a strong aptitude for customer engagement.
+ Knowledge of DoD systems engineering requirements and experience coordinating directly with customers.
+ Ability to drive process development, continuous improvement, and affordability initiatives within programs.
Primary Level Salary Range: $155,400.00 - $233,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
