Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an **Embedded & Real Time Principal Software Engineer** to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Software organization. The location for this opportunity is **Rancho Bernardo, Redondo Beach or El Segundo, CA** and will be primarily based within our office spaces to support program and business needs. Operating on our 9/80 schedule means you will get every other Friday off. This position may have remote or Hybrid work available .
In this role you will design, develop, integrate, and test software for our end-user customers and businesses. Specifically, you will be responsible for the design, development, and administration of embedded and real time systems. You will work with multi-disciplinary teams, such as with Systems Engineering, Test Automation, DevSecOps and Systems Test, in an Agile software development environment.
Essential Functions:
+ Work in a fast-paced environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative team settings across all levels.
+ Participate in the full software development life cycle including requirements, design, implementation, qualification, and delivery of software products to our customers.
+ Operate in an embedded technology development environment working with real time operating systems for use in flight and mission critical systems.
+ Work in Agile Scrum teams to develop software products for multiple software baselines.
Basic Qualifications:
+ Bachelor of Science Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with **5** or more years of experience in software engineering OR a Master of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with **3** or more years of experience in software engineering.
+ Experience with the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
+ Experience with at least two of the following programming or scripting languages: C, C++, and Python.
+ Experience with Agile software development, embedded system programming, software integration and testing.
+ Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government **Secret Clearance** , and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience with Object Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD).
+ Experience with developing software used for one of the following real-time applications: flight critical software, Safety critical software, medical software, or mission critical software.
+ Experience with two of the following tools: Jira, Crucible, Bitbucket, Subversion, Bamboo, Jenkins, SonarQube, Fortify, or Coverity.
+ Experience with one of the following real time operating systems: Wind River VxWorks, Green Hills Integrity, or Realtime Linux.
+ Experience with multiple serial bus data interfaces, including communicating and managing the health of external devices.
+ Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.
+ Basic understanding of PowerPC or ARM assembly.
+ Basic understanding of Device Drivers and their configuration.
+ Can identify moderate execution defects by only reading code.
+ Understanding how their software component will fit into a larger software system/architecture.
+ Able to document, capture, and present software architectural components in modeling or diagramming tool.
+ Familiarity with OS partitions and isolation architectures.
+ Understanding of the Software Requirements process and their Verification and Validation.
+ High level understanding of architectural requirements for airworthiness certifications.
+ Strong understanding of layered software architectures (e.g., Application, System, I/O).
+ Strong understanding of the following concepts:
+ Software hardware interfaces and where they exist in the architecture.
+ Event driven (Interrupts), polling and synchronous software architectures.
+ Ability to collaborate with systems engineers, hardware designers and integration/test engineers to develop and maintain complex software systems.
+ Experience with leading a small size (1-5) technical team with technical decision making.
+ Active Secret DoD Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Clearance.
Primary Level Salary Range: $110,300.00 - $165,500.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
