General Summary
The Director of Engineering is leading Supply Chain initiatives focused on optimizing labor performance through advanced Labor Management System (LMS) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS). This leadership role will drive continuous improvement, standardization, and innovation across our distribution and fulfillment network, with a strong focus on operational excellence and cost reduction.
This position also has the strategic role to optimize our distribution network, Supply Chain analytics and Program Management Office (PMO) responsibilities. The successful candidate will direct network design, analytics, and PMO resources to drive enterprise-wide efficiencies, reduce costs, and enable long-term growth through strategic network design.
This role requires an influential leader who can collaborate effectively with senior executives and cross-functional teams including IT, Operations, Transportation and Finance. The Director must excel at project management, financial acumen, problem solving, and communication, while also navigating ambiguity and ensuring alignment with Family Dollar store-centric commitment to customers, service, and sales.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
+ Provide strategic leadership over the design, implementation and governance of engineered labor standards using LMS across all distribution centers
+ Oversee WMS optimization & continuous improvement initiatives to enhance order fulfillment, slotting strategies and overall warehouse efficiency.
+ Lead a team of industrial engineers and data analysts to execute projects aligned with Supply Chain performance goals
+ Drive operational standardization across DCs, including engineered labor standards and Labor Management Systems (LMS).
+ Improve facility and field engineering processes using lean methodologies.
+ Define and track key performance metrics, driving accountability for labor productivity, throughput, space utilization and service levels.
+ Collaborate with site leadership to roll out new tools, standards and system enhancements ensuring effective adoption and compliance.
+ Lead the design and optimization of our end-to-end supply chain network.
+ Develop network strategies to support future growth, service level expectations and cost objectives.
+ Build and maintain network models to evaluate scenarios related to facility placement, capacity needs and transportation efficiency.
+ Manage and develop the Supply Chain Analytics team responsible for producing insights, reporting and analysis
+ Leverage tools such as SQL, Tableau, Power BI to drive decision making.
+ Achieve network-wide cost savings through DC footprint optimization, long-range capacity planning, and labor management integration.
+ Partner with leadership in Operations, Transportation, Finance, IT and Inventory to align strategies and coordinate implementation.
+ Provide executive level updates, scenario modeling and business cases to support capital investment and operational decisions.
+ Secure Board and Finance Committee approval for multi-year long-range plans, aligning supply chain strategy with enterprise growth goals.
+ Mentor and develop high-performing engineering, and analytics teams focused on value creation, quality, and scalability.
+ Travel 30–50% depending on business needs.
Position Requirements
Education & Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or related field; master’s preferred.
+ Master’s degree and/or MOST certification are strongly preferred.
+ Lean certification, blackbelt preferred
+ 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in supply chain engineering, network design, or operations.
+ 5+ years in a leadership role with direct oversight of LMS, WMS implementations and optimization
+ Demonstrated ability to Engineers, PMO, and analytics teams with measurable results.
+ Deep knowledge of leading LMS (Argent, and Blue Yonder preferred) and WMS platforms (Catalyst)
+ Strong background in labor engineering, productivity analytics and engineered labor standards.
+ Expertise in Network Design software (preferably Llamasoft or Optilogic).

Technical Skills
+ Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, and PowerPoint.
+ MOST & ability to build engineering labor standards
+ Database proficiency preferred.
