Job Description
AECOM is seeking a talented and experienced **Travel Demand Modeling Manage** r for our team supporting Florida's Turnpike Enterprise located in Ocoee, Florida. This position will be responsible for the delivery of traffic forecasts using the recently developed statewide tour-based model. The job duties include supporting innovative toll project evaluations and leading a team of travel demand modelers with traffic forecasting evaluations for project traffic and toll revenue purposes. The candidate will be part of Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise’s Planning and Environmental Management Office group, providing technical expertise in the general areas of transportation planning, project feasibility evaluations, master planning, and traffic & revenue studies.
We are searching for a self-starter to plan, organize, and implement complex, multidisciplinary transportation planning study assignments from scope development through final report documentation. The Travel Demand Modeling Manager will manage multiple assignments simultaneously and oversee a group of transportation professionals providing travel demand modeling services to Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise. The candidate will provide innovative solutions and contribute to the development of the next generation of Florida travel demand models for statewide corridor evaluations of both tolled and non-tolled facilities. The Travel Demand Modeling Manager’s team will assemble and prepare data for model validation and long-range future year travel forecasts; perform model validation to required accuracy standards; develop forecasts for toll road projects; and document results.
The Travel Demand Modeling Manager will also assist in travel demand model development enhancements to the Turnpike State Model (TSM) that include updates using the following: QGIS, R, and Python software, large language models (LLMs), and machine learning techniques. The candidate may also be required to carry out complex or novel assignments or research requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. The candidate will also utilize analytical skills for research on design, data development, and statistical analyses to address perceived model shortcomings and recommend an improved modeling approach.
This position also includes, but is not limited to, the following tasks:
+ Develops work scopes, schedules, and budgets for travel demand modeling development activities;
+ Organizes and performs travel demand modeling tasks on-schedule and within budget;
+ Manages model development activities in support of project traffic forecasts for limited access toll facilities and express lane systems;
+ Projects toll project traffic evaluations in support of planning, economic feasibility, and design activities;
+ Leads preparation of documentation of traffic forecasts and travel demand model development;
+ Leads preparation and presentation of briefings of traffic forecasts or travel demand modeling results for clients, stakeholders, and other interested parties;
+ Prepares progress reports for model development and traffic forecasting activities;
+ Directs field data acquisition, site investigations, and surveys;
+ Oversees the assembling and preparation of data for model validation and long-range future year travel forecasts;
+ Utilizes investigational skills for research on design, data development, and statistical analyses to enhance modeling techniques;
+ Evaluates transportation systems, roadway level of service, and forecasts of future transportation needs;
+ Understands regional travel demand models used throughout the State of Florida Districts and Metropolitan Planning Organizations and attending Florida models’ users groups will be required;
+ Evaluates state-of-the-art travel demand modeling practices, including LLMs and machine learning, for applicability to the Turnpike State Model.
Qualifications
Minimum:
+ Bachelor's degree in engineering, planning, public policy, or related field;
+ Ten years of relevant experience with travel demand modeling, traffic forecasting, model development, and model application;
+ Five years of experience with the management of travel demand modeling activities in support of transportation planning, transportation engineering, and corridor studies;
+ Experience and proficient in principles, practices, and objectives of transportation planning applications, specifically the 4-Step process of travel demand modeling, Activity-Based Models, micro-simulation and dynamic traffic assignment;
+ Programming experience with the following: Microsoft Visual Studio, SQL, C++, Python, Rscript, JAVA, and using AI to assist in code development and debugging;
+ Knowledge of travel demand modeling software, such as Cube, TransCAD, TRANSIMS, and Visum;
+ Proficient in choice models, including their development and application to travel demand;
+ Proficient in econometrics in estimating demand models from survey data;
+ Experience with GIS and database analysis including developing scripts to process data in and out of GIS files or automated routines in QGIS / ArcGIS.
+ Experience with utilization of advanced techniques with modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of planning sciences, data sciences and related disciplines;
+ Experience in technical writing skills and verbal communication abilities to present modeling results for various stakeholders (clients, TRB or IBTTA conferences, model user groups);
+ Valid US Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
Preferred:
+ Proficient in organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills;
+ Experience in managing assignments through completion on-schedule, with an understanding of the unique requirements of transportation planning for the toll industry;
+ Master's or PhD in planning, engineering or related field with a concentration in transportation modeling.

+ Relocation is available for this role.
+ Occasional travel is required, often driving to project sites located outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
+ Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $150000 to $210000.
