    As a **Mainframe Application Architect** , you will make an impact by leading the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise-grade mainframe applications in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You will be a valued member of our Engineering team, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to drive innovation, ensure system stability, and support mission-critical business operations.

     

    You will play a key role in modernizing legacy systems, enhancing performance, and mentoring junior developers while contributing to strategic initiatives that shape the future of our technology landscape.

Based on the business requirements of this role, this is an **onsite position requiring 5 days a week** in a client or Cognizant office in **Plano, TX** .

    Job Responsibilities

    + Develop secure, high-quality production code and review/debug code written by others.

    + Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate recurring issues to improve operational stability.

    + Estimate and plan JIRA stories, document tasks and technical decisions.

    + Perform hands-on coding and peer code reviews to ensure application stability and compliance with architecture standards, risk management, and security policies.

    + Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and maintainable solutions.

    + Work independently with minimal oversight while contributing to team goals.

    + Participate in system design discussions and provide technical leadership in mainframe technologies.

    Requirements

    Experience:

    + Minimum **15+ years** of experience in developing, debugging, and maintaining code in large corporate environments using IBM-Z/OS Mainframe applications.

    Technical Skills:

    + Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, CICS, IMS, MQ, VSAM (batch and real-time processes).

    + Experience with CICS Mainview, REXX, CLIST.

    + Familiarity with FTP/NDM/File-Mover, CA-7, IBM Utilities, Intertest, File Aid, TSO/ISPF/SDSF, File Manager, Changeman, SORT.

    + Skilled in using debug tools like Xpediter.

    + Strong database design and development experience in IMS DB, DB2, DB2 SQL, and Stored Procedures.

    + Experience with IBM WebSphere MQ messaging solutions.

    Soft Skills:

    + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    + Excellent communication and documentation abilities.

    + Ability to mentor junior developers and contribute to team development.

    Salary and Other Compensation:

    Applications will be accepted until October 19 th , 2025.

     

    The annual salary for this position is between $90,000 - $130,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

     

    This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
