    About this Job

     

    The Director of Student Life is an administrative position within the Division of Student Affairs charged with enhancing the overall student experience with a focus on student engagement, leadership development, recreational sports, and residential life. This position plays a critical role in fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging campus environment. Primary responsibilities include providing planning, leadership, and direct oversight of Student Activities, Residence Life, and Recreational Sports, Student Activities Board, Student Government Association, Greek Life, and Student Organizations. The Director of Student Life supervises the Assistant Director for Student Life, the Assistant Director for Recreational Sports, and the Assistant Director for Residence Life. This is a full time, exempt position reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement and Staff Development.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree in business administration, student personnel administration, higher education administration, or a related field.

    + Three (3) years of professional experience working in student life at a higher education institution.

    + Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

    + Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with individuals at all levels and lead engaged teams.

    + Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

    Preferred Qualification:

    + Master’s degree in student personnel administration, higher education administration, business administration, or a related field.

    + Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in student life, with at least 2 years in residence life or housing.

    + Supervisory and budget management experience. Knowledge of professional standards in higher education. Experience in presenting to students, faculty, and staff. Effective in planning, organizing, implementing, and assessing programs for student life.

    + Knowledge of assessment, data-informed decision making, and accreditation processes.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Leadership and Management

    + Provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for all Student Life programs and services.

    + Serves as a key member of the Student Affairs leadership team and contributes to division-wide initiatives.

    + Provides supervision, training, support, and additional professional development opportunities for professional staff.

    + Hires, schedules, and supervises student workers and graduate assistants assigned to student activities.

    + Oversees social media accounts for Student Life; primary administrator for student engagement platform.

    + Develops and enforces policies and procedures related to student life.

    + Serves as responsible fiscal agent overseeing all operational budgets for Student Life, allocating resources, and spending the Student Activities Fee revenue appropriately.

    + Assesses the effectiveness and impact of student life initiatives on student engagement, development, and success through data collection, surveys, and evaluations to make informed decisions for improvement.

    + Keeps abreast of current trends and best practices related to student life and participating in professional development activities.

    Student Engagement

    + Develops and implements a comprehensive student life program that is inclusive of our diverse student body, collaborative with campus stakeholders, and promotes student involvement, engagement, and personal growth on campus.

    + Ensures that all direct and indirect Student Life programmatic efforts align with the mission and goals of LSUS, Student Affairs, and the department itself, directing and executing major, large-scale programs and campus-wide events as needed to foster a sense of community and belonging among students.

    + Cultivates opportunities for collaboration and partnerships with other LSUS. departments to create mutually beneficial collaborations with the Office of Student Life.

    + Provides on-site supervision of events and activities, including nights and weekends.

    + Oversees marketing plans to attract various student constituencies to participate in student activities, recreational sports, student organizations, and associated programs.

    Leadership Development

    + Develops and implements a comprehensive vision and strategy for student leadership development, integrating leadership development within all aspects of Student Life.

    + Guides and coordinates student organizations in planning, advertising, and resource management; serves as advisor for Student Government Association (SGA).

    + Directs the Community Service Initiative.

    + Oversees and evaluates leadership development opportunities, programs, workshops, and training sessions for students, student government, and student organization leaders.

    + Develops and implements assessment methods to measure the effectiveness of leadership development programs and student learning outcomes.

    + Maintains accurate records and data related to student leadership participation and program outcomes.

    Residential Life

    + Oversees development and implementation of programs and initiatives to provide student engagement, community building, and a sense of belonging.

    + Serves as point of contact for Pilots’ Pointe Apartments; facilitates connections between campus and residential life programming to ensure sense of community within housing and with the greater campus.

    + Provides supervision, support, and evaluation to professional and student staff (e.g., Assistant Director for Residence Life, Resident Assistants).

    + Coordinates training for Pilots’ Pointe Resident Assistants, contributing to the positive learning environment and residential curriculum.

    + Works with the Assistant Director to mediate disputes, address behavioral issues, and resolve conflicts among residents; enforces residence policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and respectful living environment.

    + Develops and oversees the Living Learning Communities.

    Recreational Sports

    + Directs the operation and management of a comprehensive recreational sports program including intramural sports, fitness programs, and campus recreation events.

    + Serves as the interface with LSU Health Shreveport for all recreational sports activities and activity contracts.

    + Collaborates with campus and community stakeholders to provide recreation education and healthy lifestyles.

    + Directs short- and long-term strategic planning for recreational sports, including representing Student Life in development and maintenance of the Hub.

    Position Specific Information:

    Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
