About this Job
Job Description:
Works with and directs Horticulture Attendants, Mobile Equipment Operators and other labor to maintain the grounds and landscaping of the campus at LSU Baton Rouge and other off-site LSU properties as directed. This job entails working in adverse weather conditions, requires the ability to lift 50 lbs, and involves work on weekends and after hours as necessary.
Job Duties:
Works with and directs a crew of other grounds workers, contractors, and/or supplemental labor to maintain the grounds in an assigned areas to levels of safety, appearance, and health as required. Operates or directs others working with power riding tractors, mowers (usually less that 25HP), entrances, canals, building perimeters, tree perimeters, road sides, etc. in a neat, clean, and safe condition. Supports other crews as necessary.-75%
Directs others or personally applies chemicals for weed control, pest control, fertilization and amendment of soils; applies mulch to beds and under tree canopies, performs week removal, assists with ornamental and flower planting, litter removal, litter container servicing for cleanliness, cigarette butt removal, etc.-10%
Directs others or personally assists with irrigation work, digging, grading, and drain basin cleaning, and other types of grounds related tasks as needed.-5%
Fills in for a Horticulture Attendant Foreman to direct the activity of 2 or more crews of Horticulture Attendants, Mobile Equipment Operators, and others in assigned tasks. Fills out time sheets, vacancy paper work, etc., as required.-5%
Performs other work as necessary -5%
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping; OR
Twelve semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
+ Due to the nature of this position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
+ This position requires a valid driver's license, will require an MVR, and is subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
+ This position is classified as a safety and security-sensitive position. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
+ In accordance with PS-18 this position maybe required to report or stay on campus in the event of emergency or closure. .
+ Ability to lift 50 pounds, be capable of reaching, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Must have physical ability to perform manual work. Must be capable of walking around the assigned area and stand for extended period of time. This position will require a physical evaluation based on the physical demands required.
Certifications/Licenses:
Valid Louisiana Class E License
