About this Job
The mission of the Secretary of State's office is to serve the public by fulfilling its legal responsibilities of collecting, securing, and communicating information that enhances commerce, ensures the integrity of Louisiana's elections, and preserves, presents, and makes accessible government information essential to Louisiana's operations and its recorded history.
The Louisiana State Archives is seeking adynamic and experiencedsupervisor to lead our Reference Services Section. In this key supervisory role, you will be responsible for managing the Research Library and leading our front-desk reception team. Your leadership will ensure that we continue to provide exceptional access to our state's historical records.
Minimum Qualifications
Six years of experience in historical research, archival operations, records management, records preservation, or college-level teaching in a humanities field; OR
Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus three years of experience in historical research, archival operations, records management, records preservation, or college-level teaching in a humanities field; OR
A bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in historical research, archival operations, records management, records preservation, or college-level teaching in a humanities field; OR
An advanced degree in a social science or humanities field plus two years of experience in historical research, archival operations, records management, records preservation, or college-level teaching in a humanities field.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
+ Supervises full-time archivists and part-time students in the Research Library and determines work assignments.
+ Evaluates and rates employees’ performances and trains new employees.
+ Develops and manages the policies and procedures of the department.
+ Develops long range goals and prepares budget requests for the department, prepares quarterly and annual reports for the Archives Manager, and procures items for the daily operation of the Research Library.
+ Conducts PowerPoint presentations, seminars and workshops about the genealogical resources and historical collections housed at the Louisiana State Archives
Ideal Candidate Profile: Master's degree form an ALA accredited Library and Information Science program with a concentration in archival studies or a closely related field, Certification with the Academy of Certified Archivists and three years of professional experience in an archival or special collections library setting.
