Infusion RN – Texas OncologyPosition Summary

Under minimal supervision, the Infusion RN provides professional nursing care to oncology patients, ensuring adherence to national standards and company protocols. This role involves administering therapies, supporting patients and families, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team throughout the treatment process—from initial contact through chemotherapy and stem cell rescue to follow-up care.

Key Responsibilities

+ Patient Care & Assessment

+ Conduct patient interviews and health assessments.

+ Document nursing interventions and report findings to providers.

+ Educate patients and families on treatment plans and provide psychosocial support.

+ Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.

+ Therapy Administration

+ Administer medications and blood products safely and accurately.

+ Program and manage portable infusion pumps; educate patients/caregivers on home use.

+ Perform venipuncture, access ports, and maintain central line devices.

+ Monitor labs and collaborate with physicians for dose modifications.

+ Clinical Operations

+ Assist with exams, procedures, and patient flow.

+ Manage medication refill requests and triage patient calls.

+ Schedule tests, referrals, and follow-up appointments.

+ Coordinate care and connect patients with community resources.

+ Environment & Safety

+ Restock supplies and maintain equipment.

+ Follow OSHA guidelines for handling hazardous materials.

+ Ensure proper disinfection and infection control protocols.

+ Team Collaboration

+ Mentor and support LPNs, LVNs, and medical assistants.

+ Provide coverage at satellite offices as needed.

+ Collaborate with clinical research teams.

+ Professional Development

+ Stay current with oncology nursing practices through continuing education.

Qualifications

+ Education & Licensure

+ Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.

+ Active RN license in the state of practice.

+ Current BLS certification.

+ Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy provider card preferred.

+ Experience

+ Minimum 5 years of nursing experience; 1+ year in oncology required.

+ Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred.

Working Conditions

+ Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and radiation typical of an oncology clinic.

+ Requires standing/walking for long periods, lifting up to 40 lbs, and manual dexterity.
