Position Title Gerontology Program Assistant

Department/Employer Operating Hours Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm/ occasional remote or on-site work

Description of Primary Duties
The Gerontology Program Assistant will assist with two community-focused projects: The Annual Senior Art Exhibition (a campus–community event celebrating creativity in later life) and the CARE Collective (a grant-funded initiative that connects and supports caregivers across Southwest Missouri). This position blends creative design, event coordination, and community outreach. The student will help plan and promote events, design engaging materials, and keep projects running smoothly behind the scenes.
1) Assist with event coordination and communication for both projects.
2) Design and prepare promotional and event materials (flyers, posters, invitations, signage, wall tags, etc.).
3) Maintain and update contact lists, schedules, and digital files.
4) Communicate with artists, community partners, and university offices to share event details and gather information.
5) Collaborate with web designer and draft updates for the projects.
Required Qualifications
1) Federal Work-Study eligibility.
2) Strong written and verbal communication skills.
3) Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
4) Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace.
Required Certifications
Additional Qualifications
1) Experience with Canva
2) Interest in marketing, event planning, or community engagement.
3) Comfort communicating with community partners and older adults.
