St. James Hospital is recruiting a Security Guard Per diem who will be responsible for protecting and safeguarding employees, patients, visitors, and property by providing a visible deterrence to crime.

Job Results & Essential Functions

+ The primary station is E.R. Dept.

+ Patrols building and grounds of the Hospital to prevent fires, theft, and vandalism

+ Ensures only authorized personnel are admitted onto Hospital premises

+ Escorts visitors, patients, and personnel to and from parking areas

+ Assists motorists who become stranded on Hospital property

+ Maintains current information in lost and found logs. Notifies individuals when items reported as missing are located.

+ Serves as a member of the Code Team and responds to Codes: Red, Yellow, Pink, and White

+ Investigates incidents of unusual circumstances reported by Hospital personnel, visitors, physicians, or patients and report all incidents, verbally or through general incident form, by the end of each shift.

+ Writes incident reports and documents investigatory steps and results.

+ Responds to emergency calls for assistance to control disorderly conduct or combative patients

+ Patrols parking lot areas to detect any irregularities

+ Inspects outgoing parcels as necessary to prevent theft of Hospital Property.

+ Reports all safety and fire hazards observed on routine patrols and inspections

+ Assists and gives courteous responses to any inquiries made by patients, visitors, or personnel

+ Monitors Hospital using electronic security equipment (closed-circuit television, alarms, etc)

+ Enforces all Hospital policies/procedures as assigned by Administration and Engineering Director

+ Liaison with local law enforcement

Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in security or law enforcement is required. Must successfully pass PMCS training.

Licenses and/or Certifications

+ Registered as a Security Guard in NYS or close to completion preferred

+ Valid NYS Driver's License

+ Ability to deal with the high stress possible in this job

+ Ability to deal with disorderly and combative patients and visitors

Physical Demands

+ Sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending

+ Ability to write reports

+ Ability to respond to questions from staff, and visitors. and patients

+ Must become familiar with applicable federal, state, and local regulations

+ Must be able to physically participate and respond to Code White situations.

Working Conditions

+ Work inside and outside in the snow, rain, dirt, and heat in mechanical rooms.

+ Potential for exposure to chemicals, communicable diseases, and bodily fluids.

Salary Description

$18.00- $20.21
