The Director of Engineering is a senior technology leader responsible for driving the design, development, and delivery of scalable, high-quality software solutions that enable the organization’s strategic objectives. This role leads a blended team of onshore full-time employees and offshore contract resources, fostering collaboration across geographies and disciplines to ensure consistent, high-performance software delivery.

The ideal candidate brings proven experience building and scaling strong software engineering teams, deep technical expertise in Azure cloud services and Microsoft SQL database architecture, and a track record of optimizing performance of enterprise systems at scale. This leader should also have hands-on experience implementing application monitoring and observability tools (such as Azure Application Insights), as well as performance and security monitoring solutions that ensure operational stability and data protection. Additionally, the successful candidate will be a forward-thinking technologist who leverages AI tools and automation within the software engineering pipeline to improve productivity, code quality, and release velocity.

This position reports to the SVP of Engineering and partners closely with Infrastructure, Product, Operations, and other key business stakeholders at all levels of the organization. This position is based in our Las Vegas, NV headquarters. Strong, remote candidates will also be considered; periodic travel (approximately once per month) to Las Vegas or Chicago should be expected.

Responsibilities

• Leads and develops high-performing software engineering teams, including both onshore and offshore resources.

• Manages and mentors Engineering Managers and individual contributors such as Technical Product Owners, Technical Solutions Analysts, and Developers.

• Owns engineering execution, ensuring delivery of high-quality, maintainable, scalable, and cost-efficient software solutions aligned with business priorities.

• Defines and enforces technology standards, development practices, and architectural guidelines consistent with organizational goals.

• Drives performance optimization of software systems and databases at scale, proactively improving application speed, reliability, and maintainability.

• Oversees system and data architecture, including Azure hosting, Microsoft SQL database design, and integration strategies.

• Implements and manages application monitoring tools (such as Azure Application Insights) and performance and security monitoring solutions to ensure system reliability, availability, and data protection.

• Champions the adoption of AI tools and automation across the software engineering pipeline — including code generation, quality assurance, test automation, and system monitoring — to increase productivity and accelerate delivery.

• Establishes and tracks key performance metrics across engineering delivery, quality, velocity, uptime, and operational excellence.

• Partners closely with Product Management and other stakeholders to align technical execution with strategic roadmaps and business value, prioritize initiatives, manage dependencies, and balance competing demands

• Implements a metrics-driven approach to planning, resourcing, and delivery, ensuring decisions are based on measurable outcomes.

• Fosters a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and accountability across distributed teams.

• Drives continuous improvement in development processes, DevOps practices, and engineering team performance.

• Ensures alignment of engineering capacity and capability with long-term technology and product roadmaps.

Skills and Requirements

Degree in CS or related field (Bachelor’s or Master’s).

10+ years in software engineering, including 5+ years in leadership across multiple teams.

Proven track record in building and scaling global engineering teams.

Expert in Azure cloud, hosting architecture, and SQL database optimization.

Skilled in application, performance, and security monitoring (e.g., Azure Insights).

Success in scaling and optimizing software/data systems.

Experience with AI-driven tools for code analysis, testing, CI/CD, and monitoring.

Strong grasp of modern web architectures and frameworks (.NET Core, EF, React).

Excellent leadership, communication, and team alignment skills.

Able to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.

Collaborative partner across Product, TechOps, QA, and Operations.

Detail-oriented with a focus on strategic execution • Experience delivering web-based internal business applications or enterprise tools.

• Hands-on understanding of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.

• Experience with agile scaling frameworks (Scrum@Scale, SAFe, or equivalent).

• Prior experience in a high-growth or rapidly evolving technology environment.
